Causes: Environment, Land Resources Conservation
Mission: Building on a legacy of knowledge and experience, the open space council works independently and collaboratively to conserve and sustain land, water, and other natural resources throughout the st louis region.
Programs: In 2017, nearly 2,000 citizen volunteers came out to clean up nearly 500 miles of waterway in the meramec river watershed. Volunteers donated over 5,802 hours and pulled 2,029 tires, 16,272 lbs of metal and 539 cubic yards of trash from the river. A special emphasis was placed on lower meramec park and surrounding open space. Addtionally, the operation wild lands programs volunteers worked to enhance local open spaces, including deer creek park and forest river trail park, through invasive species removal, native planting projects, and trail building.
