advocacy programming: legislative start-up, tuesdays at the capitol, legislative wrap-up: an event at the beginning of the legislative session educating mnccd membership and community members about legislative policy items. Tuesdays is a two-hour long program during the legislative session teaching self-advocates how to tell their story, meet with their legislators, and advocate for issues that affect them. Policy updates are given, guest speakers and ongoing advocacy activities. Individuals completed "faces of disability" posters to leave at their legislator's offices. Wrap-up includes an awards ceremony for outstanding individuals in the area of advocacy. 1,442 people attended this advocacy program during 2017.
health and wellness conference: healthy independent living for people with disabilities. This one-day conference profiled best practices in the areas of nutrition, self-care, stress reduction, and integrative healthcare practices for people with disabilities. Dr. Henry emmons and matthew sanford were the morning and afternoon keynote speakers. We had 19 breakout session presenters and 211 attendees.
