Programs: This year, the junior league of stark county, ohio, inc. Promoted voluntarism by honoring the outstanding community volunteers, marcia zawacky and connie rubin, at our annual women of the year luncheon on may 4th, 2017. For the fourth consecutive year, we provided grants for girls in k-12 who want to lead a project to benefit the community. Three junior leader community service grants were awarded this year for care packages for those suffering from homelessness, a literary program at a hospital, and a sensory room at an after-school youth center. We developed the potential of women by holding various training sessions throughout the year at general membership meetings, super saturday, and leadership day trainings. Two board members attended the annual association of junior leagues international winter conference in tampa, florida and four members attended organizational development institute training in pennsylvania and came back to share lessons learned upon their return. We improved the community through volunteer support and done in a day projects including early childhood resource center's the big, big very big toy box event, assisting participants at the harvest moon run, painting and redecorating andre's house, a permanent group home for the homeless who are afflicted with mental illness, decorating a christmas tree for the hoover historical society, painting garden signs at the martin center, funding the purchase of kitchen cabinets and painting the kitchen at the martin center, and providing over a hundred backpacks full of food and hygiene items for the youth at the martin center. Provisional members led a class project where they collaborated with pathway caring for children and planned a sadie hawkins dance for foster children. Our active members and sustaining members also each served meals once a month to the youth at the martin center.
