My parents have worked here for as long as I can remember, and they have always helped the food pantry and donated money to St. Vincent De Paul.
The Human Race has been the great theatre company as long as I can remember. They always provide a great time in Dayton Ohio. I have enjoyed each show I have been to.
I began as an usher many years ago and have been a season subscriber ever since. The productions are always first-rate in terms of both acting and scenery. I particularly enjoy the fact that the plays are ones that I usually have not seen previously. The intimacy of the theatre is another plus.
I have been a fan of the Human Race Theatre for a number of years. The productions are always first rate and the range of shows is spectacular, particularly for a regional theater company. I highly recommend supporting this great community asset.
Unlike a major presenting organization which offers large-scale shows brought in by touring companies and the like, this company produces plays and musicals which usually would not be feasible on a large mainstage. Sometimes their shows are not of mainstream appeal but that is what is so appealing to their audiences and distinguishes them. Being an Actors Equity company, their casts, sets and staging of the highest quality. Being a local producing company, they nurture the actors and backstage workers within this community. Their productions are consistently outstanding and regularly win top reviews and local DayTony awards. Many resident artists have been inducted into the Dayton Theatre Hall of Fame. Their Musical Theatre Workshop program has attracted important playwrights to come to Dayton test their ideas and help develop the hits of tomorrow. We fully support their programs buy subscribing to their perfomance season, donating to their annual fund campaigns, attending their fund-raisers, and joining theirEncore Circle (legacy society)
The HRT is an awesome asset in the Dayton region! Amazing productions. The directing, staging, costumes and overall quality can't be beat, especially for the reasonable price. And it's produced locally!
The productions are well directed, well acted and set beautifully. The theatre is a perfect performance venue, being small and intimate, but containing all of the technological niceties of a much larger theatre. The Human Race Theatre is well managed,on decent financial footing given the current economic climate and always in search of the next great play to produce for it audience. The theatre is a jewel in the Dayton community.
I have had the pleasure of watching and supporting The Human Race Inc. since its inception and it never ceases to amaze me how this group has grown in stature and ability. I think that I have seen better than 80% of the offerings and though I enjoyed some plays more than others, I ALWAYS was impressed with the talent and staging.I'm not a big fan of great profanity, but I guess that it is currently part of theater. I would give the organization a big "10".
I attended the Human Race Theatre's (Dayton, OH) production of "A Vertical Hour" about two weeks ago. It was very well staged and the actors were excellent. The play was extremely thought provoking and should have provided a "talk back" session following each show. I'm sure it struck a familiar chord with audience members who have ever questioned their life decisions based on convenience or conscience!
The Human Race Theatre brings outstanding productions to the Dayton region. Each year, the series is full of variety, great staging and exceptional performances.
The Human Race Theatre is human in all respects: thinking and feeling and responding and contradicting and annoying and inspiring. See a play and become human. A totally professional and warm organization adding so much to the vibrancy of the Dayton community. Show me those people who say there is nothing to do in Dayton and I will show you someone who has not been human or to the Human Race.
The Human Race Theater is a true gem! The quality of the productions is truly exceptional. The actors, the costumes and the stagging all add to the experience of outstanding theater. The physical theater itself is intimate yet you forget you are in a small theater and become part of the production. Prior to, at intermission and following the production the Human Race compliments the experience with events, food and thoughtful discussions prior to and following a production. This is good theater and fun to boot.
The Human Race Theatre in Dayton OH has been a great source of entertainment and enlightenment for me and the greater Dayton area for many years. We are fortunate to have a professional theatre offering a dynamic selection of theatrical performances unlike those typically offered in smaller towns and communities like ours. Eyes are opened, minds are jump started, and imanginations are sparked with the subject matter and quality of the productions provided by The Human Race.
As a seasoned travelers, we seek out the best art venues wherever we find ourselves. However, when we are home, the Dayton arts scene and specifically the Human Race welcome us home with their quality offerings. Our Human Race favorites of these locally produced plays include The Drawer Boy, Ethel Waters, Snapshots, Painting Churches, The Delicate Balance, and Man of La Mancha. The Human Race takes full advantage of is 220 seat theater space to present intimate and compelling programs throughout their season. We appreciate the quality and value of this Dayton gem. The Human Race is must see whenever in Dayton. A truly significant professional theater experience being locally produced.
I developed an interest in drama during my high school and college years, reading plays, reviews and attending performances when possible. After settling into careers and establishing our home in Dayton, my husband and I began sampling the wonderful cultural opportunities present in Dayton. We quickly recognized how fortunate we, and the Dayton Community, are that the Human Race Theatre Co. has chosen Dayton as its home and that we can experience and enjoy plays that are consistently well produced, that are meaningful and thought provoking, whether they are dramas, comedies or musicals, and that are produced locally. When I was invited to join the Board of Trustees I jumped at the opportunity to be involved in this well respected organization, but also to satisfy my own yearning to gain access to a world abounding with energy and creativity. I discovered that not only does the Human Race Theatre produce plays, but that it provides programing and study materials for schools; has a conservatory for aspiring actors; holds theatre classes for children and adults; awards scholarships to selected students pursing majors in musical theatre; and is one of only a few theatres nationally that is actively involved in the development of new musicals. As I became more involved, I recognized how outstanding the staff truly are, producing fantastic shows on tight budgets, running a fiscally responsible organization, and truly dedicating their time, talents, and financial support, to the organization that they created and nurtured. Inspired by the mission of the organization, by those I encountered on the Board and the staff, I wanted to become more knowledgeable about not-for-profit theatre operation and sustainability, with the encouragement of the Executive and Artistic Directors who made me aware of conferences and seminars, I attened and participated in many, which increased my own knowledge but also enabled me to share information and provide leadership to the organization. I can honestly say that it has been a privilege to be associated with an organization held in such high regard as The Human Race Theatre Co. and which does so much to nurture the creative spirit in all of us. An endorsement of The Human Race Theatre Co. will help that creative spirit to continue to soar.
