Mission: The Greater Cincinnati Foundation inspires current and future generations to invest in a more vibrant and prosperous Greater Cincinnati where everyone can thrive. GCF has served eight counties in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana since 1963 with effective stewardship and strong leadership.
Geographic areas served: An eight-county region including Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren counties in Ohio; Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties in Kentucky; and Dearborn County, Indiana.
Programs: Donor advised grantmaking: donor advised funds allow donors to recommend grants to nonprofit organizations of their choice over time. The greater cincinnati foundation has approximately 911 donor advised funds with a combined market value of more than $181 million. The foundation encourages philanthropy by providing this flexible vehicle for donors to achieve their individual charitable objectives. Gcf welcomes the opportunity to partner with people who want to be actively involved in grantmaking.
priority and small projects/capacity-building grants: gcf responds to proposals submitted by nonprofit organizations in our eight-county service area. Grants are made to support projects in the following seven issue areas: cultural vibrancy, economic opportunity, educational success, environmental stewardship, health & wellness, job creation, and strong communities.
community leadership initiatives:gcf takes a proactive approach to investing in the community by providing leadership, knowledge and grants to address large-scale community issues. Community leadership initiatives are most often initiated by gcf or developed with extensive gcf involvement. They generally involve major, long-term grants and are structured as formal funding partnerships among a number of foundation and corporate partners. Several of our current initiatives include cincinnati public schools community learning centers, united way/place matters, and support of seven collective impact initiatives including: agenda 360, the green umbrella, the local intiative support corporation, partners fora competitive workforce, skyward, strive partnership and success by 6.
