Programs: In 2005 The Community Foundation in Jacksonville started a 10 year initiative entitled Quality Eduation for All. This initiative has three components: Community Learning (the Forum on Quality Education), Direct Investment (targeted grants) and Advocacy and Pubilc Policy. This initiative is supported through the unrestricted funds of the Foundation. In 2006, the Foundation was selected by the Pew Partnership for Civic Change as one of two cities to pilot Learning to Finish, a program focused on addressing the drop out problem in our public schools. This program is part of the Quality Education Initiative. The Foundation also makes competitive grants from unrestricted and field of initerest funds as follows: Art Ventures Initiative (grants to individual artists and small and emerging arts organizations); Reflective Practice Initiative (grants to "Build the Capactiy" of Nonprofit Organizations through Reflective Practice); Early Childhood Initiative (grants to improve the quality of child care services and programs for children aged 0-6 in Duval County); and the Seniors Initiative (grants to improve the quality of life for Duval County seniors). The Foundation does not support capital programs or projects. Support from designated and organization endowments is provided to those organizations specified by the donor or organization who establishes the fund. Grants from donor advised funds are made throughout the United States and reflect the charitable interest of the donor(s) who establish the fund. Finally, scholarship and award grants are made by the Foundation in accordance with the criteria established by the donor and administered by an independent scholarship grantmaking committee.
