Mission: Excellence in national and international hazardous materials management. The center supports initiatives in protection of human health and the environment while advancing economic development through applied technology.
Programs: Center of excellence has nationally recognized conservation programs in habitat conservation and management in support of two species of concern in new mexico. These are the lesser prairie chicken and the dunes sagebrush lizard. These programs provide for the conservation of the two species while affirming and supporting traditional, multiple land uses. In 2013, center of excellence has established a new division dedicated to providing environmental consultation services to industry for expediting permit authorizations regarding work on state and federal lands. These services include, but are not limited to: writing environmental assessments in support of applications for permits to drill (apds), conducting apd reviews in support of expediting apd submittals, trench monitoring and surveillances in support of blm mandates. Center of excellence continues to maintain a small r & d algae project focused on the cultivation, harvesting and oil extraction of a marine algae in support of establishing business opportunities in aquaculture for nutraceutical, medicinal, and other commercial applications for algal biomass.
