Mission: To help empower and enable children to resist the ever-increasing pressures responsible for the record levels of campus killings, adolescent suicide, depression, dropouts, incarcerations, and acts of violence among youth in the us today.
Programs: Fye14 saw a dramatic shift in our program, stemming from the dec. 14, 2012, sandy hook massacre, new town, ct, resulting in the murder of 20 elementary school children and six staff. Given that tragic situation and the new heightened public understanding of the urgency of such concerns nationwide, for which we've been advocating since inception, the campaign for american kids (cak) launched a concerted effort to make key decision makers in ct aware of the solution we'd created. On november 15, 2013, cak finally secured trademark rights for name veracare america, which has become our signature program. Veracare was designed to make low cost, yet superior quality child development/daycare services available to those who would benefit most, with a view ultimately to maximizing security and well-being for the whole of american society. Efforts in bringing veracare to ct were mostly volunteer-driven, under the leadership of rev. Jesse glick. Rev. Glick created an all-volunteer, ad hoc state advisory team, and succeeded in generating numerous valuable relationships. These include congregation and communion executives, the public education advocacy team (peat), edward f zigler phd, sterling prof emeritus psychology; emeritus faculty; director, emeritus, the edward zigler center in child development & social policy, senators chris murphy and dante bartolomeo, the ucc women of connecticut, and the connecticut coalition for children. Rev. Glick also arranged for a december meeting with newly-hired myra jones taylor, phd, director, connecticut office of early childhood and cak board members. He also assured that our organization and its mission were visible at the ucc annual conference in hartford.
