Mission: C-win is a non-profit, tax exempt california corporation that advocates for the just and environmentally sustainable use of californias water, including instream flows and groundwater reserves, through research, planning, public education, media outreach, and litigation.
Programs: Litigation concerning appropriate uses of california water: (a) continued monterey plus complaint: c-win maintains a lawsuit against the california department of water resources agency to protect taxpayer investments in the state water project and ensure that sufficient water is available for city/urban needs in the event of a drought (as state law mandates). (b) continued kern water bank complaint: c-win also sustains a lawsuit to reinstitute a state-purchased water investment that had been sold to privately controlled interests who profit from water sales, to the detriment of california taxpayers/urban cities who lose access to those water resources during drought periods. (c) delta plan and its eir: c-win sustains a lawsuit to halt approval and implementaion of the delta plan because it does not meet the requirements of the california delta reform act of 2009.
communication and public education: (a)continues a public education campaign in santa barbara county to inform the public about the existing and future costs of imported state water to the santa barbara region through water agency presentations, and opinion-editorial pieces published in local and regional news media and supported by supplemental information on our website, c-win. Org. (b)part of a coalition of other consumer, environmental, and delta protection groups that are fighting the proposed twin tunnels project and the bay delta conservation plan. (c)c-wins commitment to protection of the trinity river and its fisheries through efforts by board member tom stokely to give presentations to various groups on the trinity river, to participate as vice-chairman of the federal advisory committee for the trinity river and to review and comment on environmental documents affecting the trinity river. (d)continued raising public awareness of poisoned lands in the western san joaquin valley where central valley project irrigators discharge selenium, boron, salt and other pollutants to the san joaquin river,the delta and aquifers. (e)c-win continues to operate and maintain a website (www. C-win. Org) where we publicize our work, provide background educational materials about water law and californias large-scale projects, provide links to news about californias water issues, operate a portal for donations, and explain water issues in everyday language. (f)supervised one intern and one volunteer who have consistently assisted c-win staff with maintaining and adding content to c-win. Org.
