Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Currently we are trying to raise the funds necessary to open a local wildlife and nature center. We don't have one in the area and we are adjacent to the Angeles National Forest. We need an educational facility to better acquaint the local people with their local flora and fauna. If they do not understand it, why should they want to protect it? We want a better location to start our monthly nature hikes, we'd like to have a speaker series, we want field trips in and a mobile unit that goes to schools. We have a lot we want to do, a lot that can be done, and very limited resources.

Teranga Ranch is awesome! I contacted them through Facebook about adoption of a Ball Python, and they were more helpful than I possibly could have imagined. They responded incredibly quickly, and were actually able to bring the snake to me, as I had no car. Priscilla helped me set up his habitat, and as I am a first-time snake owner, taught me how to feed and care for him. She's always been available to answer my questions, which I've had a lot of. They made adopting a snake painless, and significantly cheaper than going to the pet store! The work they do is awesome, and they really care about their animals :)

I have seen them in action. They work tirelessly in and with the community to not only rescue and rehabilitate, but to also educate. Whether it's adults or going into the schools to teach kids about respecting all living things! We are lucky to have them!

Teranga Ranch does great work with critters that many don't "like" (reptiles). The animals receive excellent care and as able are rehomed into wonderful homes. Dana knows her stuff. Can't speak highly enough about Teranga Ranch.

This is an AMAZING project that not only teaches about the wildlife we share out neighborhood with but also helps domesticated animals too! The love for nature and all animals is pervasive with this group and this creative approach needs to be emulated around the world.

Teranga Ranch is one of the top most knowledgeable places to go to in need for information about reptiles. Dana is top notch at knowing how to help in every possible way from any simple question to helping out a reptile in need. Her information to local schools have educated kids in treating their home pets and teaching them more about responsibility. I hope Teranga Ranch grows and helps the neighborhoods about their reptile surroundings.

Teranga Ranch provides a spectacular animal educational program for kids and adults. This organization has established itself as a Center of Excellence for the proper care of reptiles and is an asset to Southern California as a rescue facility.

Dana from Teranga Ranch visited my daughter's Pet Club at Valley Christian High School in Cerritos. They brought all varieties of reptiles that would excite even a high schooler! She has a great program that is both educational, engaging and fun for students of all ages. The adults enjoyed it also! Thank you Teranga Ranch for what you do for reptiles and the community!

Teranga Ranch is an amazing group of volunteers with a vast knowledge of wildlife and reptiles. They brought life back to our town this summer by putting on Summerfest, an animal education and adoption event that was hugely successful. We are very fortunate to have Teranga Ranch as part of our community!

Teranga Ranch supports the Sunland-Tujunga community in both the human and animal worlds. They sponsor kid-friendly hikes that allow parents to spend some time with the little ones outdoors. Teranga Ranch also empowers its community through its volunteer work, this year culminating in Summerfest, a community-organized festival celebrated at local Sunland Park. Time and again Teranga Ranch has suited up for its community and we wish them luck!

Writing another review 4 years later.... we HAVE grown, and we do so much more these days. We are now a resource for information on local wildlife. We continue to take in reptiles who have no other place to go, and we re-home them. We work closely with LA Animal Services to this end. We also work in conjunction with the Wildlife Waystation whenever possible. Teranga Ranch recently put on a big festival in the local park (Summerfest) in order to start raising funds for a local nature center. We are growing and becoming more a part of our community every day.

Teranga Ranch was started because a Science Teacher who loves animals and kids started taking in unwanted reptiles from her students. The animals were used in the classroom to demonstrate all kinds of scientific principles. The teacher started a non-profit taking in these animals and going out to schools to talk about the responsibilities of pet ownership, what kinds of animals make good pets, camouflage, adaptations for survival, etc...
