Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Giving cats the lives they deserve. Tenth Life provides veterinary care, foster homes, and adoptive placement to stray cats and kittens, prioritizing those with special needs. We work to end unnecessary euthanasia and cat homelessness through educational outreach, community programs, and collaborative partnerships. We believe that every cat, regardless of emotional or physical limitations, deserves the chance at a fulfilling and happy life. If a veterinarian determines that a cat is in a state of incurable suffering, Tenth Life relieves them of their pain through gentle and humane euthanasia. This decision is never made because of a lack of space, preventing negative behaviors, or because a cat's medical needs are difficult or expensive. Tenth Life feels strongly that all pets should be spayed and neutered. An unbelievable number of companion animals are euthanized each day because there are not enough homes for them. The only way to make a difference in this tragedy is education. To learn more about the importance of spaying and neutering, please read our reasons for promoting it on our website.

Target demographics: Stray cats in St. Louis and beyond and our beloved community.

Geographic areas served: St. Louis, Missouri

I have been volunteering with Tenth Life Cat Rescue for over a year now. Not only have I had the honor of helping dozens of cats find lives they deserve, I have also acquired a beautiful group of friends who share the same passion. Sometimes you don't know what you were missing until that thing enters your life. Well, I had no idea I was missing Tenth Life and I am thrilled to be part of the team. I started volunteering to fulfill my desire to give back to the community and I have stayed because it fulfills so much more. I had no idea that my heart could contain so much love for so many cats and people. From helping with special events, to educating the public, to teaching children how to use "gentle hands" all the way to helping potential adopters find "the one," I fall further in love with Tenth Life.

The most amazing organization I have ever encountered. The spirit and enthusiasm each volunteer shares is inspiring. Devotion to making lives better for each cat cared for by Tenth LIfe is a primary aim of all the wonderful individuals who strive to have each cat have the life they truly deserve is amazing.

Sometimes it's too hard to capture the right words - but I'll try. Tenth Life Cat Rescue is an organization and gathering of folks who embody caring and compassion for cats and kittens with special needs. Helping the St. Louis community be a better place through working to secure adoptive homes for felines, no matter the level of special care and understanding, is the mission of TLC. I am so proud to be affiliated with this organization because of its mission, its volunteers, and of course, the most delightful, extraordinary, and spirited cats and kittens that bring grace to all of us.

Tenth Life is one of the most dedicated groups of volunteers I have ever met and worked with. They truly truly care and would do anything for almost any cat that needed help. The cats with disabilities that they are able to treat to a large extent and then find loving for is incredible! Highly recommend getting involved, just coming by on the weekend to play with some of the cats in the adoption lounge, or adopting one of these sweet babies!

Love Tenth Life! We foster neonatal kittens and always feel supported. We also adopted a very special kitten from the rescue 2 years ago.

I’ve been fostering with Tenth Life for about a year now. Every experience and/or interaction has been positive. Staff are passionate and dedicated about what they do. They care deeply about every cat but also about the people they are working with. Each time I meet a perspective adopter of a cat I’m fostering, they are nicer than the last. It’s so great to see that a group of people who love and care are able to touch so many lives in so many positive ways.

We are blessed to have many awesome nonprofit animal rescue organizations in the St. Louis area! However, my favorite for many years has been Tenth Life Cat Rescue. Tenth Life is unique in many ways. For one thing, they prioritize special-needs cats. In my years as a caretaker and foster parent for Tenth Life, I have cared for many blind cats, three-legged cats, partially paralyzed cats in diapers, cats with extremely crooked limbs, cats who need their bladders and bowels manually expressed--they all need love and deserve to have the best lives possible, and it's Tenth Life's mission to give that to them! Of course, Tenth Life rescues plenty of "regular-needs" cats as well, but I'm particularly thankful that they open their door and their hearts to the special felines that many other rescues are not able to help.

Another special thing about Tenth Life is their amazing Adoption Lounge, where kitties roam freely in a living room setting. The Adoption Lounge is open to the public at least one day per week. At that time, people can visit to meet a potential family member, or they are welcome to come just to help volunteers keep the cats feeling loved and well-socialized. We love having people come to snuggle or play with the cats, even if they are not planning to adopt. Tenth Life provides freshly brewed coffee, couches, and cats--all for free. Also, once a month or more, Tenth Life hosts Cats 'n' Mats yoga sessions with the kitties. For all these reasons, many of us call Tenth Life's Adoption Lounge "the happiest place on Earth"! But don't take my word for it--come visit the kitties at Tenth Life and see for yourself!

I walked into Tenth Life August 2018 with a litter of kittens I found outside my place of work. I had no idea what I was doing and wanted to make sure they were cared for. Tenth Life helped me by helping the kitties, it was AMAZING!! I've been working with them ever since and look forward to helping more kitties!

Where would I be without Tenth Life? I would be without my sweet Ravioli and a much lesser person for it!
I started volunteering with Tenth Life as a way to give back for bringing such awesome kitties to my life. I stay because I love the people, the cats and the mission--to give cats the live they deserve. And this means all cats!

In the Spring of 2017, I adopted my first cat from Tenth Life. From the interaction I had with volunteers during the adoption process and all of the support after the cat came home, I became more interested in the organization. I began to follow Tenth Life more closely and supported the organization in small ways--donations here and there; participating in a couple of fundraising event; and cat yoga at the storefront. In the Fall of that year, I adopted my second Tenth Life kitty--I went through Tenth Life again because I love their mission (not to mention the excellent customer service. I also trusted that they would give me advice on selecting the best cat for my home!).

I am so thankful for the happiness that Tenth Life gave to me that I began volunteering my time as well this year. I want to help share the word about this awesome organization and the fanatic work that everyone does. Tenth Life--the people and the cats--have really made my life richer. Tenth Life does wonderful work with animals who deserve the best care.

When we adopted Edwin O'Malley from Tenth Life in 2014, we also met and fell in love with Garfield. We wanted to bring them both into our family at that time, but transitioning Edwin into our current cat family was a bit rocky and we didn't want Garfield to wait any longer than necessary for his purrfect family. It was bitter sweet when he was scooped up by his new Pappa Mike. Mike loved and cared for Garfield for 5 years, sharing posts and stories on the Tenth Life Adopters Facebook page, where we all fell in love with him again and again.
During those 5 years, I became a volunteer with Tenth Life. I started with helping out at the adoption lounge until my dream of having a neonatal kitten nursery in my home was realized this past February. In March, I officially welcomed my first two foster kittens, Sippy Cup and Binky. While I wasn't as available to help out at the adoption lounge, I still wanted to contribute to this wonderful organization in any way possible. I soon started working with the adoptions team and taking on more administrative work.
In July of this year, our Garfield's Pappa suddenly passed away and Garfield was returned to Tenth Life. Since we were already set up to foster, we quickly scooped up this wonderful boy and brought him into our home. On August 31, we completed his adoption and officially made Garfield a member of our family.

My relationship with Tenth Life started in 2014 with an adoption application subsequently bringing one of the most amazing cats I've ever met into my family. From my early interactions with the Tenth Life Staff and Volunteers (Foster parents, adoption counselors and TLOC staff) I knew this was a special place. I quickly felt as though by adopting Edwin O'Malley, we were adopted into his first family, Tenth Life. Over the last 4 years, I became a regular donor and visitor to the kitties at TLOC. Tenth Life is exemplary in meeting their mission because of the love and dedication of the volunteers and staff and I wanted to do whatever I could to help them to continue to succeed. About 7 months ago, I had the realization that I needed to start giving more of my most precious commodity - my time. I currently volunteer at TLOC on Saturdays or Sundays, about once a month, but I am looking for ways to give back even more. I'm so pleased to do my part to contribute toward their mission (and care for and play with cats!) and enjoy getting to know the rest of the Tenth Life family.

Tenth Life Cat Rescue goes the extra mile. They focus on special needs kittens and cats. What they do changes the lives of so many cats and gives them the opportunity that otherwise would have been snuffed out. I'm a monthly donor. I volunteer whenever I can and i totally believe in what this organization does. I wish I could free up more time to volunteer more hours to this organization.

This is a small but mighty organization that helps so many cats and kittens in St Louis. While they save many typical kittens, they also go above and beyond in order to care for cats that have complicated medical issues or injuries. I have also found it to be a great community of people who care about the animals and each other in a profound way. It's a special group!!

I started fostering for Tenth Life Cat Rescue in 2017. My third foster cat, Feller, was a little guy who struggled to build relationships and struggled in previous foster homes to trust. Tenth Life never gave up on him just like all of the other kitties supported through this organization. Feller was supported by great veterinary care as well as a cat behaviorist to help me help Feller. After a long journey with so many great volunteers and foster homes, I'm happy to say that Feller is thriving and living his best life. Feller is no longer a foster as I decided to adopt him so he can continue to live his life in familiar surroundings. I look forward to hopefully fostering for Tenth Life again so Feller and I can help other kitties live their best lives too!

I have been volunteering with Tenth Life for 2.5 years, and it has been such a joy. There are so many unique ways to get involved in this organization, from helping with events to actual kitty care-taking. The work that Tenth Life does for the most vulnerable cats & kittens truly impacts and strengthens our St. Louis community. Tenth Life has heart, and grit, and I am honored to be a part of this team.

I've been aware of Tenth Life for a few years now, and just started to volunteer with them this summer 2017. I am blown away by the dedication of the staff & fellow volunteers in this organization. They are kind, communicative, organized, and endlessly devoted to the well-being of the cats, especially those with special needs, in the St. Louis community. And, there are so many ways to volunteer and get involved - it's been easy to find opportunities that work for my personality and interests. I would recommend this organization to anyone who is looking to get involved in animal welfare in St. Louis, or who is looking to adopt a cat. Thank you for all you do, Tenth Life!

Tenth Life is an amazing shelter that offers nothing but kindness and curiosity to forgotten feline friends! When I filed for an adoption it made me feel happy knowing they're make sure that those cats being adopted are going to a loving home. The tenth life family also keeps close together sharing pictures with one another, and it's great to see a community of cat lovers and foster parents stay close knit on the lives of the kitties!

I heard about this group through the amazing story of Lincoln, the quadriplegic cat. When I lost one of my beloved companions about 6 years ago, I turned to 10th Life to find another companion for myself and my remaining kitty, Tommy. I found Loki, who has become my snuggle companion, who lies on me and pets my face, who is often a troublemaker to his brofur, and who talks to me constantly. He is a blessing in my life and I thank 10th Life daily for bringing him to me.

In 2016 when our 20 year old cat passed a couple months later my 15 year old son wanted to get a kitten. He found ozzie on your site and after looking & researching we found out they want to adopt in pairs when they are so young, they were born in April & this was july. So she had two brothers, Brock & Gibbs ( the cards crew). We planned on getting Brock also but after seeing these three tiny babies at their foster mamas house we couldnt leave the other brother behind. So we adopted the trio and they keep us on our toes but also cuddly. It was a wonderful experience dealing with them and the two foster mamas that had them gave us their whole background and i am fb friends with them.

My son found a kitten on tenth lifes website and fell in love with her. I got in touch with them and everything was so easy. We found out they adopt in pairs under 6 months of age so my son saw that she had two brothers so we had an idea that we may want to see Brock also while we were there. We made an appt to meet with the foster mom who had her and her brothers. Well as soon as we saw all three of them we fell in love with all of them! Decided we would adopt all three siblings because we didnt want to split them up. They were almost four months old by then. We have had them since aug.4th and on oct. 20th (tomorrow) they will be 6 months old. We couldnt be happier with the experience we have had with tenth life and their foster moms. I keep in touch with both of them, have gotten their full background and pictures from when they first arrived! They have the kittens up to date on shots, spayed and/or neutered, and chipped before we get them! I cannot praise them enough for the love and joy we have with our three little babies! To preface this we had a cat who passed away in June who was twenty years old, older than my son who is fifteen. We were devastated even though he was sick it was still hard to deal with. My son never experienced the kitten stage and that is what brought us to tenth lifes website.i would reccommend anyone to go to them and rescue a kitten or cat or two.. or three! I have included pictures of my babies.. Brock who is in the basket and is our most vocal one. Ozzie, the little girl who is still tiny and we call her little sissy. And Gibbs (Gibson is his full name) who is a cuddler. When they were brought in they were named for former Cardinals players

It was a room full of compassion and love. That was the overwhelming impression we had the moment we walked into the TenthLife location. We have visited only a few times because we live near Seattle, about 2,000 miles from St. Louis, but we do make a financial contribution each year. If we lived nearby, we would be volunteering often. Three cheers for everyone who supports this wonderful, caring organization!

I found out about the Tenth life mission many years ago at a charity ball and art auction. They go to great lengths to help the cats in the most need. I went to many events and cuddled many cats. I had a young cat with health problems myself, so I could empathize. When my cat died I took comfort in visiting the animals in the storefront. After a fe months I realized how alone my other cat was. With their guidance, I tried to adopt another cat. They were a great help. While the first adoption didn't work out perfectly, I had to send the cat back to foster care as I could not gain her trust. Then they helped me find Robin, who was a young pregnant cat alone on the street. After giving birth and her kittens were weaned and adopted, a young mother needed a home. Tenth Life helped me get her and now she's the most cuddly cat.

I first heard about Tenth Life in April 2013 and attended a volunteer orientation a month later in May. They asked if anyone wanted to hold a kitten and of course I said YES! They put little Piper in my arms and it was love at first sight. Piper was born with special needs - she is missing her back legs (only developed feet) and her front left leg is slightly bent. The owner of the mama cat wanted to euthanize Piper and her siblings (also born with twisted limbs, much more severe than Piper) and volunteers went out of their way to drive them across multiple states to get them to St. Louis. 5 years later and Piper is a spoiled little princess and I am an adoption counselor for Tenth Life in my free time. I have volunteered with several animal organizations and rescues in the St. Louis area over the years but Tenth Life is the one I have felt most appreciated and most welcome at, and they tirelessly work to provide loving homes to kittens and cats who would otherwise be euthanized. I am forever grateful for their mission to advocate for the underdogs (or undercats?) and for introducing me to my little Piper.

I'm a volunteer with Tenth Life that is also a foster fail. I've seen first hand how they do put the cats/kittens first and try to give them the life they deserve. My Aziza came from bad situation. She has seen specialist after specialist to try to resolve her health issues. Still a work in progress but without Tenth Life I would not have known where to begin with her health issues. She has a great vet team and the support we get from the organization. We cheer for every adoption and happy ending and cry for every fur baby that doesn't get the happy ending. This group supports each other and the community.

I started as a volunteer about 2 years ago and I have been involved since. I even became a "foster" parent however, I am a foster fail. My little girl has so many health issues and has been through a lot but Tenth Life has been great at working in finding her relief from her health issues. But that is who they are and they really live up to the name of Tenth Life the cats that come into there care get the best vet care out there and they do not stop until every cat gets the chance. They really do put the cats first.

We found Tenth Life by accident after contributing a large supply of dry food our cats rejected. We visited with more goodies a couple of weeks later and there was Garfield - a cat with very mild CH. We weren't looking for another cat, but I told my wife if he were there when we came back a week later, he would become part of our family. And so he was - and did. During the process, these folks checked our references and very politely let us know there would be no declawing Garfield if he were to come home with us. That was such an 'aha moment'. We are no longer down with declawing - and there's no problem with his having claws and our other 5 not. The cats at Tenth Life are very socialized because they're allowed to roam the facility. Garfield is extremely social and loves everything living - whether it has 2 legs or 4. Tenth Life is an unbelievable rescue - to the point that we consider everyone part of our family.

In 2011, the worst thing that could ever happen to a person, happened to me. My kitty Cisco, who had been my companion and best friend for over 20 years, passed away in her sleep. I was absolutely devastated. I started looking at kittens available for adoption, just because my house was way too quiet. I fell in love with a family of kittens who had been found and were being cared for by an amazing foster mom at tenth life. I have to admit to being a bit of a pest about them, once I saw their beautiful faces. Tenth Life saved my girls and I will be forever grateful to them, because they also saved me. Everyone, I'd like you to meet Topaz and Diamond. My baby girls.

I haven't been able to volunteer as much lately due to health reasons, but i can't wait to get back to it. The volunteers are a wonderful group of caring and dedicated people.

I've volunteered with Tenth Life for just under a year - on day one I told them I specialize in administrative tasks such as spreadsheets, reports and visual storytelling. The staff immediately took interest in my talents and we formulated a game plan to bring their organization and their information into the digital age. Whether it's cleaning data or cleaning the litter boxes at the store front the hard working people at Tenth Life have made my experience an enjoyable one that I know we will continue to modernize to ensure that we are giving cats the life they deserve (using information as our guide).

I have worked with several rescues in the St Louis area and Tenth Life has always been amazing. Together with Tenth Life, my wife and I have fostered and rescued more than 100 cats and kittens, many with special needs requiring expensive veterinary care. Without the support of Tenth Life Cat Rescue, few of these deserving creatures would have had a chance.

I cannot think of a more deserving animal rescue.

Tenth Life Cat Rescue is doing amazing things for cats in the Saint Louis area. By focusing on stray cats and kittens with injuries, illnesses, and special needs, the rescue saves hundreds of lives every year. But Tenth Life offers so much more. From a community resource helpline, to behavioral counselors, to adoption consultants who work to match adopters with the best possible cat(s) for their situation, Tenth Life really does it all.

Tenth Life goes above and beyond for cats in the St. Louis area, particularly those with special needs. The staff and volunteers rally when there is a cat found in a dangerous situation and they work until that cat is rescued and safe. But they also save many, many perfectly healthy cats and find them homes with a very detailed vetting process. At this time, TL relies on a devoted network of foster homes and could always use more help. I have adopted two TL cats and my life would be sad without them!
