Mission: The organization's mission is to perform william shakespeare's plays, primarily in an outdoor environment; to perform classical plays and plays of southern playwrights in its own dedicated indoor space; to provide innovative education and training programs for students and professionals of all ages.
Programs: The organization is the mid-south's only professional, union, classical theatre which performs the plays of william shakespeare and other classical writers seasonally throughout the year. The past year's productions included richard iii at germantown performing arts center, twelfth night at dixon gallery & gardens, a midsummer night's dream at the university of memphis, showplace memphis: three new musicals-in-development as readings at the university of memphis, william faulkner salon in a private home, kate chopin salon in a private home, and the sixth annual valentine's gala performance at germantown performing arts center. The productions were seen by more than 4,000 patrons.
the organization provides year-round educational and training programs that during the past year reached nearly 7,000 children in the memphis area and across the southeastern united states. Programs included the nationally- acclaimed romeo and juliet project, which brings a 90-minute performance of the play and three non-violence workshops to every freshman in select title one high schools including hope academy (for young violent offenders in the juvenile court system). Other programs include morning student matinees of all professional productions, in-school customized playshops, arts-in- education residencies, schools touring performances of romeo and juliet, schools touring performances of shakespeare said it, three summer camps, and professional voice and movement training for local actors.
