Mission: The goal of the Houston-TASO Baseball Scholarship Foundation is to continue and improve the providing of financial assistance in the form of scholarships for individuals associated within the Houston area served by the Houston-TASO Baseball Umpires Association. By generating additional funds, more individuals can be helped to continue their college education and better prepare themselves for the future.
Results: Each year's recipient receives a financial scholarship sent directly to the college of their choice. Over the past 15 years there have been over $500,000 in scholarships. Recipients also receive a commemorative plaque to record the honor of the scholarship award and their achievement. The majority of the scholarship funds are generated from an annual tournament held in September. The scholarship funds are raised by the umpire's activities, including an annual baseball tournament, and corporate contributions.
Target demographics: Provide scholarships to participants of their high school varsity baseball teams
Direct beneficiaries per year: 30 student athletes with scholarships to the college of their choice.
