Programs: The mission of Target Hunger is to alleviate hunger and its root causes in the Houston neighborhoods we serve. What began as a small, community based grass roots organization in 1989, has grown into one of the largest organizations that distributes food to families in need in the Greater Houston area. Today, Target Hunger operates a system of 9 food pantries, 12 educational and community gardens, 14 senior home delivery routes and a free breakfast program that serve more than 16,000 people each month. We distribute just over 5.2 million pounds of food each year to people who might otherwise go hungry. That’s equivalent to approximately 4.1 million meals each year. Target Hunger provides a holistic approach to hunger relief. Our organization focuses on the root causes of hunger through a series of programs aimed at helping our clients become more self-sufficient. Our vision is a community where no one goes hungry and individuals are able to provide food for themselves
