I have volunteered with this organization for 5 years. The Director is a retired school teacher , respected in the community. Her love and knowledge of dogs is impressive.

It is important to know that people in all positions are volunteers, some have full time jobs as well as families.

All dogs are microchipped. The chips arr in the rescues name so that if the dog is lost the rescue will know. For thst reason the dogs ate not taken to private vets. One of the volunteers does the chipping and they purchase their own chips.

I am fostering for this rescue. I have fostered for 4 different shelters/rescues. The founder is the rudest, meanest, most condescending snarky person I have ever dealt with. Hopefully the animal's won't suffer from this review but people should definitely bewarned. There is something fishy here. They would not pay for vet care and/or chipping one of the dogs. Care should be #1!

I addopted mMissy 5 or 6 years ago. She was already five and had been given to animal control because the original owner had died and Missy having a lot of energy, the kids found it inconvenient maybe even cruel to keep her. Animal control got her and they work with dog rescues. She ended up at Tails & Trails; for over a year. I looked up shepherds on PetFinder and this girls beautiful smile wa the first to appear. I somehow knew she was the one for me. She is now between 10 and 11. When we went down to adopt, we brought a Carin terrier, Mr. Rudy, to see if they would get along. They hit it off an I adopted her. She also got along well with two cats.I've never had a single regret. She is a smart, well behaved dog that does an extraordinary job protecting me and her 9 acre metropolitan Farm. Despite being hit as a pup, which fused her rear leg knee and bobbed her tail; she trots and gallops with the best of them. She is still going strong. Older, house trained, dogs are the only way to go. They are loyal for life and appreciate what you have done for them. I've appreciated how she has enhanced my life. Tails & Trails does a great job but they could use some financial help. They do as best they can. I've only owned rescue animals and the tail is always the same. I love Missy and I think Tail & Trails does a loving job. My photos are too big to fit on this stupid website, so I can not share what a wonder friend I adopted. Steven Pettinga Indianapolis

This place was the worst place I had ever encountered. I tried to pursue getting a puppy for our foster daughter and asked if my references would be called due to not having my references emails on hand at the time of the application where I had to pay $10 and I was told that I was denied. When I asked why I was denied they stated that they called the vet about my cat and they had no record of him at the vet. I let them know this was true but my cat sees one vet, our dog another. But, on this application there was only one line for a vet. I tried to give my cats vet info and was greeted with “Too bad you already were denied!” I asked to talk to the manager and Penny was her name said, “Go ahead call her she was the one who told me to deny you.” So, I left a message explaining we wanted the dog for an emotional support animal for our foster daughter who suffered from extreme abuse. That I have more than one vet and that office staff refused to call references to make an adoption possible. I was not called back but they did leave a snarky and unprofessional reply on their Google Reviews to me a year later. This place was literally the worst. We did adopt a puppy from another rescue who was literally amazing, not like this place.

The founder would give her last dime to help every stray dog and cat she meets.

First of all be forewarned this rescue will not even glance at your application unless you have $10.00 to send them when sending the application to them. Apparently they cannot be bothered to read an application for anything less than 10.00 (doesn't matter how great of an adopter you might be). Forget it, you don't have a chance.
I was in the unfortunate position of not having 10.00 for my application on a Sat, night when I applied for one of their dogs. By the way, they tell you at the end right before sendng the application not on top before you spend a lot of time thoughtly filling it out.
I had just lost a dog to cancer and was at that moment strapped but had quite a bit of money coming in 4 days later.
The resuce was unwilling to wave the fee (Temporarily for 4 days) so I could find out more about the dog and they could get to know me.
It was such an incredibly unwise move on their part. I was willing to drive 250 miles to pick up this dog with cash if they wanted with the addition of the 10.00 application processing fee. My references would have solidly backed up that I have spend 10's of thousands of dollars on my adopted dogs for whatever they have needed. In fact, I could have provided pages of sworn affidavits attesting to my credibility in being capable of financially taking care of my animals.
I have owned dogs for 14 yrs. and have volunteered in animal rescue for 12 years (fostering, transporting, fundraising, donating, networking, etc.). I could not believe the hard heartedness of this rescue towards me.
I would warn anyone trying to adopt a dog from them that I question their credibility of having the best interests of their rescues in mind. Money does seem to be the most important object. https://www.facebook.com/pg/tailsandtrailsrescue/reviews/?ref=page_internal
