Target demographics: Post Adoptive Children & Families
Programs: Who was Sylvia Thomas?
Sylvia Thomas was a trailblazer among child welfare professionals in Hillsborough County, Florida. Dedicated to families, she championed the need to ensure permanency in family relationships for those adoptive and foster families in her charge. Throughout her career, she was recognized for her commitment to improving the community's support of these dependent children and the families who care for them. Never too busy to help her clients, her adoptive and foster families found that Sylvia always made herself available to listen to, support and assist them in the everyday challenges that arise in dealing with these special needs children as well as in navigating the state’s child welfare system. Sadly, Sylvia died suddenly and unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm on April 5, 2000.

I have been involved with large and small charities alike. I have found the Sylvia Thomas Center to be one of the BEST returns on your donor dollars. The impact they have on the number of children and families each year compared to others and the amount the require to operate is impressive. I have participate in Parent and Children group discussions and believe this is what is right in the area of service to our community and nonprofit leadership.
