Mission: Environmental, sustainable education and projects for economic development
Programs: School garden expansion now at 3 schools including maunaloa, middle and high schools. We added to the program 2 foodcorps members that work in the school gardens and are able to help create a farm to school program. We are also building a greenhouse at maunaloa elementary, have set up gardens in all 6 grades. The 2 acre permaculture farm is ready to start producing student supported agriculture (ssa) that will be sold to help cover expenses for training and workshops for students.
energy needs assessment - finished the energy assessment that for the first time will be a collection of data and surveys form the molokai community that will be added to our molokai-pedia project an online collection of the sustainability wheel with 12 spokes. Will be published in may 2014.
hui up 3- our 3rd program for energy effeciency that builds on the refrigerator exchange program. This year we were able to exchange over 200 refrigerators and complete a total of 200 energy assessments with our youth energy team, thanks to hawaii energy and the blue planet foundation we were able to offer stipends to 7 youths that interned with us as the energy team.
in november 2013 we received an americorps service member that will set up our long awaited youth financial literacy. We are currently waiting on funding from other sources for this program.
