I was discriminated against my religion being a Catholic in that community there was no way for me to get to the Catholic church and get to confession being in their system nothing but women from jail pregnant drug addicts that kill their babies in abortions that occur their daily and they discriminate against people I had to run I never got my children back false hope and lies

I have been familiar with the work of Susan B. Anthony Center for over a decade. I have referred clients there, and observed the work of professional colleagues at the site. I have been very impressed with the systemic, holistic approach that sets Susan B. Anthony apart. So many women caught in the cycle of substance abuse lose their children, and then succumb to even deeper despair and renewed abuse. The children, too, suffer, as they may get shuttled between foster homes and feel abandoned by their mother. Susan B. Anthony allows mother and child to heal together, and strengthens the bond instead of erasing it. I only wish there were more such centers.
Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center is dedicated to ensure that women who are battling the disease of addiction are able to remain with their children while doing so. Addiction is a deadly disease and there is more stigma attached to it when a woman is fighting this disease as compared to a man as the woman is not only looked upon as an "addict" but also as a bad mother. The children of persons with addictions suffer the most due to this disease. Susan B. Anthony ensures that the whole family is treated, not only by maintaining the mother-child bond but also by offering Family Groups to educate family members on the disease of addiction and also Al-Anon Groups that help family members know that they are not alone. This program saves lives of women, children and families.
As an Administrator for Foster Care & Adoptions here in Broward County, Florida I had seen what happens to children who are removed from their families. Even when placed with outstanding Foster Families, these children just wanted to be home with their "Mommy". The vast majority of the children were placed in care due to an addiction issue in the family. The susan B Anthony Recovery Center removes the number one barrier for women to enter substance abuse treatment programs - that is not wanting to leave their children to relative or state care. This wonderful center provides a safe place for the entire family to live while providing the intensive services needed by both the women and their children.
I recently participated in the Susan B. Anthony Center's Day of Caring-over 1000 volunteers from major companies came to relandscape and paint the center. This improved the morale of the resident woman and their children. When I attended the "thank you " luncheon, the women stood up and gave us all a heartfelt thanks and a painting that they did to take home. I will cherish this painting and this experience forever. The program is really helping women who were mostly drug dependent to build a life for themselves and live with their children at the same time-It is an amazing place and the staff and CEO should be commended for their great work.
Why should you invest and support Susan B Anthony? , My name is Meredith Mills and I am a pass client of Susan B Anthony with 12 years 11 months sober today. I am forever indebted SBA for giving me my life. As an orphan raised by the streets of Miami; I didn't have anyone there teaching me right from wrong. I didn't go through those normal stages of childhood with birthdays parties mom decorated or cry over a boy that my dad ran off because he was no good. When it became time for me to a mother; I guessed every step of the way. I had gone through many other types of treatment centers and they function all the same. They would remove me from my family (a husband and child), address my alcohol/drug use, a little of my pass, and then drop me right back into the real world mother/wife role. I came unglued every time because I was never given real world treatment with every thing being covered from parenting, anger management, social skills, and balancing my checkbook. It was the combination of different areas that they cover with the duration of time that allowed what they were showing me to absorb. When I was ready to go back into society; I had not only the practice of these skills but their continuing support that gave the confidence that I could be successful.
Today I am just that! While I lost my first husband and child to my addiction; I went on to have a another son who is almost 13 himself now. I am a stable single mother who is entering a university to start a masters program for social work. I was able work through the 12 steps of AA which I still attend meeting every week. I have been able to stop smoking tobacco after 25 years, lost over 50 lbs, and this list of accomplishments continues. What Susan B Anthony has designed here, backed by their dedicate caring staff works! “I'm proof” and to this day I know in my heart that their care and support is still there for me today and this helps give me the strength to pursue the real world that used to once consume me. Susan B Anthony gave me a safe place to call home during my pregnancy in 2007. I was able to give birth to my son clean, sober and healthy. During my stay I recieved amazing treatment. I bonded with other women who suffered from the same disease of addiction as myself. Susan B Anthony provided the knowledge I needed to live a happy, sober, productive life. Not only am I a graduate of Susan B Anthony, I am now currently an employee. I now have the opportunity to give back what has so freely been given to me.
