Surprised by hope is a non profit organisation. In Kenya we are committed to reaching out to the less previledged community , helping the needy, teaching the Bible, mentoring the youth in high schools besides other activities. In Kenya we operate at the Coastal areas which has a very high number of teenage pregnancies , poverty, unethical practices caused by beliefs besides others.

I’ve served and donated to this non profit and have seen first hand the mighty work they are doing in East Africa. Practical skills are taught and honed for sustainable business principles. Helping without hurting is their pledge. Beautiful group in a beautiful country.

This non-profit meets diverse needs of the people of East Africa in diverse and creative ways. They effectively teach people how to use their present gifts and assets to support themselves and their families. The excitement and joy on the faces of men and women when they realize they have new ways to earn an income is a beautiful thing. They realize freedom not just from poverty but from a mindset of deprivation. Adding to that teaching is a another endeavor called business-in-a-box. This little box contains everything needed to start a specific business, materials, teachings, inspiration. Another aspect of Rhiannon-profit is an effort called Sensible Shoes. Their plan is to give 1,000s of shoes (purchased always in local markets to support local economy) to children, along with a lesson on how to walk in love for their community. The leader of this non-profit is a life-giving, big smiling, generous dynamo. She selflessly gives of herself 24/7 to the people of East Africa, people she has come to love and who love her back.

This is a small ministry with a big impact as they work in village after village, teaching people how to start home-based businesses to make a living by providing a service or product that others can use. All businesses are based on materials readily available in the local East African communities and all are established on a curriculum called Kingdom Principles which was developed and written by Leslie Moser, the founder of Surprised by Hope. It is a solid business model (small scale of course) but with an emphasis on establishing and operating the business on biblical principles. The course and resultant businesses have both temporal and eternal ramifications. That course plus many other means of providing for east African people in need (shoes, food, care) makes this one of my favorite ministries.
