Programs: The hospital provided 27,962 inpatient days of care as follows: 7,375 acute intensive care, 2,162 swing bed and 18,425 long-term care. Other services provided include 64,466 outpatient procedures, 19,743 emergency room visits and 44,723 rural health clinic visits. The hospital provides care to patients who meet certain criteria under its charity care policy without charge or at amounts less than its established rates. Charges foregone for charity during the year amounted to $487,496 for hospital services. The level of financial assistance provided by the hospital has decreased over the last couple of years due to the fact that the state of west virginia expanded medicaid. With the medicaid expansion, individuals with income at 138% of the poverty guidelines are now eligible for medicaid. Prior to the medicaid expansion, the level of income to qualify for medicaid was much lower.
