Striving for More is an organization run by pure passion for the cause! It has the heart, child and family in mind... I am personal friends with the President and Founder Diane Moore. It started as a business colleague relationship and turned more into a friendship since we both have children and could share mothering stories. Diane is a great person with a professional business mindset and has always met her challenges with successful outcomes. Dianes youngest daughter Colleen was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) at the beginning of the 2007/2008 school year. She fought the disease with grace and with every medicine the great doctors at 3 hospitals could provide. Her mother and the rest of her family at her side the entire time supporting her and looking for ways to ensure she stay healthy emotionaly, mentally and spiritually as well. What Diane found was an inconsistency in the medical support from these aspects of care across the different hospitals Colleen was cared for. Colleen passed away by the end of the 2007/2008 school year on June 9, 2008. Diane soon thereafter decided to start this non-profit foundation to ensure children battling cancer in the years to come and their families can get quality and consistent emotional and spiritual care as well as the medical care. I have watched Diane learn about non-profits and build her board of directors, start a web-site, facebook page and begin fundraising among other things. She has built a great foundation and I am happliy volunteering my time to support all fundraising events and running meetings to get volunteers information and generate ideas. We ran a flapjack breakfast sponsored by Applebees and made almost $700 in just a few hours. Every little bit counts. There will be many volunteer opportunities in the future and I plan to be there as much as I can. I hope others will find purpose with this organization and give of their time and money too!
