Mission: Street Yoga gives youth and their caregivers the tools to overcome early life trauma, through the sharing of life-building mindfulness and wellness practices grounded in the ancient healing principles of yoga. We serve by helping youth create a true home in their own bodies, minds, and communities.
Programs: Street Yoga provides yoga, mindfulness, and wellness classes to youth and families struggling with homelessness, poverty, abuse, addiction, and trauma. We provide our classes at social service sites already working with these populations, such as shelters, transitional homes, residential treatment facilities, and clinics. Our classes are based on solid evidence that yoga improves physical health and reduces symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Our classes help youth and families grow stronger, heal from past traumas, and create for themselves a life that is inpsired, safe, and joyful. We teach practical techniques to give youth the physical, practical, and emotional skills to heal from pain and hardship and deal with difficulty in the future. We support their growth into confident, resilient adults.
