So... let me tell you about a special boy named Wynden. Now, Wynden was special for two major reasons. 1; he had high levels of anxiety just like his foster mom (me!) and 2; That very same foster mom very much needed a companion (Even if it were only temporary) to deal with her everyday depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and many other ailments.
Lisa (The wonderful person and friend who runs Stray Central) suggested I pick up fostering and he was my very first case! Oh boy, did I grow attached to him! He was very much my bff! I was so sad the day I had to move and couldn't foster anymore...
Anyway, Lisa does AMAZING work with Stray Central and as one of her previous volunteers and quite literally living next door to her for 2 years (I think?). She goes above and beyond for those purrecious felines under her care. She makes sure they go to loving homes that both fit the cat AND the human. Seriously, she needs more recognition for what she does.

First off, I can not stress over it enough that you should ALWAYS rescue rather than support the breeders out there (cats included) for your next forever companion/furkid. Lisa at Stray Central strives to rescue kittens and cats of all ages and find them a forever home and I personally have volunteered for her for a couple years while I lived in Arkansas before moving up to Chicagoland. She is a awesome individual who does everything in her power for her rescues, she REALLY goes above and beyond for them! Seriously though, if you're in need of a little death fluff of doom with razor blades attached to toe beans and a lot of love, look no further! Stray Central is EPIC!
I found a poor little stray in my neighborhood during the winter. This rescue responded immediately and met me the next day to take the kitty. They even did a great job keeping me appraised of his recovery!
Where do I began, i had rescued a little girl(young cat) I brought her to our home, I already had three fur babies at home. And my husbands parents were moving in soon. So I got on the internet to find a rescue. " I wasn't going to drop her off at a shelter." The first Name I saw was "Stray Central," called the number and I explained to Lisa the situation, and she did not hesitate," she said to bring her. She named her Morra. I give Morra all the credit for bringing Lisa in our lives. Lisa is the most unselfish, caring loving friend, sister I have ever met, not only does she love her cats, she has help me in every way with my fur babies. I trust her 110%
Sincerely,
Charlene Scott
Stray Central brought two sets of brother sister kittens to my place of work, the little black kittens were so beautiful, little boy fell asleep in my arms, the little girl looked up to me and I lost my heart. I waited two weeks to make sure that they wouldn’t just be a passing fancy, called and they still had them though many had expressed interest. The little boy got sick, but Lisa was with him the whole time, and though he didn’t make it, his little sister came home to us. She won over her brothers and sisters and instigates play time with all of them, even the mama. Spay Central is avWonderful group who is making a big difference! Lisa is a wonderful and hardworking person in the animal community.
I have known of Stray Central for several years. I have fostered kittens for them. I have also adopted 3 kittens from there. One kitten recently. The director loves animals with all of her heart and soul and would risk her well being to save a cat or kitten. Her life is those animals she saves and adopts out only after knowing that cat or kitten will have the best home with people that love animals. This is her life each day and night. She lives for this 24/7. I have never met anyone more devoted to these rescues than Lisa Barnett. I would not get a cat or kitten from anyone but her.
I have known Lisa Barnett, CEO of Stray Central for many years. I have called on her often for advice on helping a sick cat that we would get in. She ALWAYS knew the answer and what to do. With her knowledge and her care for the animals she is a big asset to the rescue world!
I am amazed at how many cats they are able to help on a shoe string budget. They check all potential homes to ensure these throw a ways have the best life possible.
Stray Central makes a tremendously positive difference for cats in their community. Not only do they work hard to find forever homes for adoptable cats, they also provided permenant sanctuary for cats with serious medical, emotional or behavioral problems. They limit the number of intakes so that they can provide the very best care possible for their residents. NAVS has been a proud sponsor of Stray Central through our Sanctuary Fund grant program, by helping animals affected by tornadoes and to fund spay/neuter initiatives.
