Mission: Stonewall community foundation strengthens new york city's lgbtq community from within by engaging donors, empowering community leaders and investing in dynamic organizations. We do this through: (1) inspired and thoughtful community investment, (2) leadership development initiatives, and (3) legacy building via endowments, funds, scholarships, and trusts.
Programs: Grantmaking: as part of its fund partner program, stonewall provides donors the opportunity to execute custom grantmaking and scholarship programs for the lgbtq community via donor-advised and endowed funds. Grants and scholarships are awarded to nonprofit organizations based on meeting the criteria developed for each program, and/or at the recommendation of the donor involved with each fund. Stonewall also grants operating and project support through its operating fund.
giving circles: an initiative of the stonewall community foundation, stonewall quarter share (sqs) is a giving circle of like-minded young professionals that combines financial contributions with social interactions, community education and volunteerism. Sqs gives 100% of contributions directly to nyc's lgbtq community, with three-quarters supporting the foundation's work and the remaining quarter awarded via grants to local nonprofits selected by sqs members. In addition, the dad fund, opened in 2015, collects monthly and annual contributions from gay dads in nyc to support organizations who serve lgbtq youth.
capacity building: stonewall collaborates with other community grantmakers to provide educational training for its grantee partners in the form of capacity-building workshops in nonprofit fundraising, programmatic, and management trainings.
community forum series: stonewall brings donors, grantee partners, activists, and other community members together for interactive learning and discussion on diverse issues relevant to lgbtq new york. Moderated panels, consisting of local leaders and other experts, dialog on a given topic and create opportunities for meaningful audience participation.
