Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Community Improvement & Capacity Building, Environment, Environmental Beautification, Parks & Playgrounds, Recreation & Sports, Sports

Mission: Located in southwestern Pennsylvania, the Steel Valley Trail for bicycling and hiking is under development that when completed will provide many benefits to the twelve communities it passes through: Clairton, Duquesne, Glassport, Homestead, McKeesport, Munhall, Rankin, Swissvale, West Homestead, West Mifflin, Whitaker, and Pittsburgh. The approximately nineteen-mile Steel Valley Trail (SVT), part of the Allegheny Trail Alliance, will connect the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, the Montour Trail, and the Nine Mile Run Trail, all to the Youghiogheny River Trail. It is a critical link in the system of trails to connect Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. The Trail will pass through some of the region's and the nation's most interesting history, from the exploits of George Washington to the heart of the Industrial Revolution. The abundant history along the SVT will be interpreted with a visitor's center, brochures, signage, and guides
