Nonprofit Overview
Mission: Founded in 1904, Star Gospel Mission is Charleston’s oldest independent faith-based charity, dedicated to uplifting those facing economic, emotional, spiritual, and physical hardships. With the ongoing affordable housing crisis, we provide transitional housing and emergency assistance to individuals and families in need, affirming that no one’s hardest moment defines their life. Above all, we offer hope through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, guiding those seeking spiritual transformation.

Direct beneficiaries per year: 25,946 nutritious meals for hungry men, women and children 10,676 nights of safe sleep in a clean, warm bed 1536 hours of attendance at life-skills, bible study, and addiction classes 570 personal interactions with our chaplain 2028 men, women, and children’s attendance in chapel

Programs: Pathways: Transitional housing with meals, life skills, and support for stability. Morning Light: Housing and support for mothers and children to foster resilience. RISA: Faith-based recovery with counseling, job training, and holistic healing. GraceWorks: Crisis assistance to prevent homelessness and stabilize families.
