SU4E is a great Organisation that helps elephants in Nepal!
After meeting the guys that run it I learn a lot of information about elephants, about their physiology, how they suffer in captivity and basically they open my eyes to the cruelty inflicted to them by their illegal “owners”. They’re using them as a tourist attraction and some of the elephants work almost all day in unatural contitions without any rest.
What SU4E does, is to give those majestic creatures some time away from their everyday suffering and let them run wild and just be elephants for a while. Also, they provide medical support and now even a home for retired elephants!!! Basically they have been fighting for elephant rights since day one!
SU4E does a great job in Nepal and I’m grateful that I was able to get involved and observe from up close those amazing giants in their natural habitat :)

I had an amazing experience with them and you can tell they really care about elephants and animals in general. Not only they take care of the elephants, but they educate the mahouts and the tourists with a very understanding attitude.
In this way they are changing things for good, creating an environment and a business that is beneficial for everyone.
My experience with SU4E was by FAR the most incredible and heart-warming (not to mention TRULY responsible and respectful!) encounter that I have ever had with an animal. The passion with which the SU4E approaches their work is infectious. Our experience began with an informal lesson about elephants and the many challenges facing their freedoms, rights and survival in Nepal, as well as throughout the world, which was incredibly informative and really engaging. We then were led to a beautiful field where we met one of the local working elephants, and were allowed to offer up some fresh fruits to her. After that, she was permitted to just be an elephant and exhibit her natural behaviours - rub her back on a tree, splash around in some water, munch on some fruits - things which she is, sadly, not permitted to do while working (which is most of her day). It was heartbreaking to learn about the staggeringly prevalent mistreatment of elephants in Asia and beyond, but it was extremely hopeful to see all the work that SU4E is doing to make a change for the better. We need more SU4Es all around the world working to end these awful animal enslavement practices!
