Programs: Avera st. Benedict health center (center) operates a 25-bed critical access hospital, a 47-bed nursing home, a 27-bed assisted living center and rural health clinics located in parkston, tripp and lake andes, south dakota. The center provides acute care and long-term healthcare services. Amounts and types of services provided during the year ended june 30, 2014 were: 1,241 acute hospital patient days, 1,746 swing bed days, 88 nursery patient days, 17,179 nursing home resident days, and 8,513 supervised living days. The center's three clinics completed a total of 20,341 primary care visits to the people of their community. The center maintains records to identify and monitor the level of charity care it provides. These records include the amount of charges forgone for services and supplies furnished under its charity care policy and equivalent service statistics. These amounts do not include those services that are provided to patients and residents covered by medicare, medicaid, state agencies, county, and other third-party payors where less than full charges are received. The amounts of charges foregone, based on established rates, were $214,453 for the year ended june 30, 2014.
