Mission: To provide an unlimited source of pig islet cells to accelerate the availability and affordability of islet transplantation to cure diabetes.
Programs: Breed and raise designated pathogen-free (dpf) pigs for medical research to potentially cure type 1 diabetes: bred and raised designated pathogen-free (dpf) medical-grade pigs for use in biomedical research to treat and potentially cure type 1 diabetes; provided pig pancreata to researchers developing a novel approach to encapsulate islets for transplantation as a treatment option for diabetes patients; initiated on-site pancreas procurement technology transfer and investigational new drug preparation activities necessary for clinical studies. The long-term program objective is to produce a sufficient supply of suitable donor pigs to serve as islet donors for diabetic patients, ultimately leading to a cure for diabetes.
