Programs: Spooner golf club, inc. Is a wisconsin non-stock corporation organized for the purpose of owning and operating a public golf course in the community of spooner, wi located in the northwestern part of the state. Sgc currently maintains an eighteen hole golf course. Its facilities include a clubhouse, two practice greens and a driving range. All facilities are open to the general public. Approximately 29,000 to 30,000 rounds of golf are played at sgc each season, with about 36-40% of those being played by members. Sgc's approximate membership each year is 260 single, 120 husband/wife, and 40 family memberships. Membership grants no privileges greater than those enjoyed by the general public. Membership is simply a fee structure that allows a member to pay for their greens fees in one annual payment, versus paying on a per use basis as the general public does. There are also various events each year, including clinics, tournaments, junior golf days, other golfing events, and various leagues, which are fully open to members and non-members alike, with only three exceptions. For the father-son tournament, mixed couples club championship, and season ending jack frost events, the club asks that there be at least one member in each group. In addition to the normal operation of the course for public use, including recreational leagues, handicap scoring, and instruction; sgc engages in many activities for the purpose of promoting the game of golf for the benefit of the community. Sgc has various programs that allow young golfers access to both the game of golf and sgc's facilities on a regular basis. This is done with little or no cost to the individual. Our pga golf professional offers an annual junior golf program. The program includes coaching and guidance, as well as complementary use of the range and course on days the junior program runs. Sgc provides free use of the driving range and golf course for the spooner high school golf teams. The boys golf team practices and plays in the springtime, with the girls golf team playing at the end of the season in the fall. The students are encouraged to practice and play and are allowed range balls and playing privledges free of charge while on the team. Also, spooner high school plays its golf matches versus other schools at sgc. Neither team is charged for the use of the facility in these matches. Sgc also hosts three community tournaments on an annual basis which are fund-raisers for the spooner chamber of commerce, spooner health, and the spooner fire department. These tournaments are for the charitable purpose of raising funds for the respective organizations. All entrants pay an entry fee that is applied toward greens fees and prizes. Sgc collects no greens fees from its members who play in these events and non-members are not charged the full rate. Any additional proceeds go directly to the organization that the tournament is intended to benefit.
