Mission: To provide education and vision care services to underprivileged individuals in foreign countries.
Programs: Southern eye institute helped establish a full-time permanent eye clinic in sierra leone, west africa. Supported 100% by southern eye institute, this free clinic treats thousands of patients each year. The clinic provides diagnostics, medicines and glasses on a daily basis and eye surgery on a periodic basis. Approximately 500 cataract procedures were performed this year and approximately 12,000 patients were treated in the clinic. In memphis, southern eye institute provides monthly certified education courses for primary care optometrists. Approximately 40 doctors attend the monthly event. Finally, southern eye institute has supported eye care related research papers, including "malignant hypertension and "central retinal vein occlusion. "
