I first learned about Southern Comfort Maltese Rescue seven years ago while looking at all of the beautiful doggie faces on PetFinder. That's when I read some of the saddest stories. I thought this has to be a loving rescue group when looking at the before and after pictures. That's when I met Olivia, an adult Westie/Maltese mix that was abandoned on the streets of Miami with the worse case of uterine infection their vet had ever seen. SCMR spared no expense in her care. After healing from her surgery she returned to their vet for a dental cleaning (with extractions) and a through exam. SCMR would not adopt her out until she received a clean bill of health. Olivia was by my side for five wonderful years.
I was so impressed with Southern Comfort Maltese Rescue that I am now a volunteer and foster mom. I am still impressed with the groups management and to the extent they go to rescue, heal, rehabilitate and find the perfect home for each dog. SCMR is truly a rescue that can be trusted not only with your donations but with your best friend.

In 2004 I adopted the love of my life, my JoJo, from SCMR. JoJo was a diabetic and after he passed, I became involved with fostering, especially diabetics. I have worked with SCMR ever since and have seen deserving dogs go to wonderful homes. SCMR goes above and beyond for their little refugees, providing all needed medical attention, including surgeries requiring experts at the University of TN vet school. I've seen veterinary miracles! SCMR goes above and beyond for their dogs.

I adopted my Olivia from SCMR or should I say she adopted me. The foster mom brought several adorable dogs to my home (fenced in yard) of different ages and sizes. I could not make up my mind so I sat in the middle of the yard and said "whoever wants to live with me, all you have to do is walk over here." As soon as the words left my mouth a scraggly little Maltese with Westie ears walked over to me and it was hearts and flowers after that. This rescue saved her from a Miami puppy mill. She was covered with fleas and was septic with a blood infection. Olivia turned out to be a beautiful, loving, and devoted companion. She was so wonderful I adopted another ! Her name is Cricket.
