Causes: Education

Mission: Serrc is alaska's educational resource center dedicated to delivering exemplary services and programs to alaska school districts.

Programs: Instructional support service - this program includes special education related services (speech, physical and occupational therapy and school psychology), transition services, technology, adult and vocational education, career connections, drivers education, career & technical education and family literacy. Serrc is the largest provider of related special education services in the state of alaska. During fy17 959 students were served in 148 communities and 27 districts. Transition camps were held in various districts in the state. Services were also provided at juvenille justice facilities. During fy 17 164 students were served in 16 school districts. Technology department provided services to 20 alaska school districts and organizations to assist with implementation and maintenance of customized technology used to improve student achievement and school efficiences. More than 2,000 youth were served. Ak drive (drivers education) helps southeast alaskan's obtain drivers licenses through classroom, simulator instruction and behind-the-wheel training. During fy 17 the drivers education program taught 53 people how to drive.

administrative support services - this program inlcudes business services, special education administration, federal programs cooperative, school administration and facilites, communication services, and training. During fy 17 2017 serrc wrote 76% of the school construction applications. Prepared 5 districts for deed maintenance visits and helped 7 districts get recertified. Managed maintenance for 25 districts with over 600 buildings and more than 700,000 work orders. Assisted 4 districts in administering design and construction projects. During fy 17 serrc provided business services to 3 school districts in the state. Serrc's federal program consortium submitted formula grants to the alaska department of education, bureau of indian affairs and the office of indian education. Staff also assisted districts with pre-compliance monitoring to ensure complian program implementation. 18 grants for 6 school districts were submitted totaling $1,000,000 and impacting 1,872 students.

program improvement - this program includes staff development (professional learning), assessment and evaluation, curriculum development, grant writing and research. During fy 17 serrc provided professional learning services to 36 communities in the state. 1,241 staff were trained impacting 18,576 students.
