Causes: Animals, Wildlife Preservation & Protection
Mission: The preservation of mule deer in the state of idaho. This is to be accomplished by funding conservation projects and studies independent of or in cooperation with federal and state wildlife agencies and with other conservation organizations. To provide for improvement and aquisistion of mule deer habitat through leasing, or purchase of property as well as purchase of conservation easements to provide habitat for mule deer.
Programs: Finance doe/fawn mule deer study: a three year doe/fawn mule deer study in which new born fawns are collared and monitored through the summer and winter to determine the type vegetation and terrain that is used by does with fawns and the survival rate of the fawns in the various habitat frequented by the does and fawns during the year. There will be a year long study in the birch creek area of eastern idaho and another study in the salmon, idaho area of central idaho.
s e mule deer foundation inc has undertaken a project to high fence 11 miles of interstate 15 between pocatello, idaho and inkom, idaho where the interstate crosses critical mule deer winter range migration routes. This effort is to reduce the number of mule deer fatalities that occur each year as the deer migrate between summer and winter ranges.
