My daughters Girl Scout troop chose STAAR as their regular volunteer activity. Many Saturdays were spent out there doing whatever was needed. This was especially rewarding because this is a small organization and we could immediately see the fruits of our labor. We really did make a difference!! As a result of volunteering at STARR and seeing first hand all the care and hard work that goes into caring for these dogs, I became a regular donor. Putting on my thinking cap to find other ways to help.
S.T.A.A.R. is a small non-profit pet rescue, rehabilitation and adoption agency. They have been working for over 20 years. The volunteers are very hard working. They will take dogs that other groups refuse. They work 24 hours a day to help these dogs feel that they have found people who love them and will take care of them. The volunteers work hard to find the right home for each dog. If a match is not found, the dogs have a permanent home with loving volunteers who socialize with them and love them.

S.T.A.A.R. has been a non-profit pet rescue and adoption organization for over 20 years. They feel that it is critical that all the pets are loved, socialized and allowed to run freely in play groups every day. The workers are very loving and concerned. Recently a cat wandered into the now all-dogs facility. The cat has been vetted and stayed until the right home was found.
I have been supporting this non-profit, no kill pet adoption group for 18 years and am impressed regularly with the integrity and hard work of this organization. The mission of this group is to give pets the chance at life and for a loving home that they all richly deserve. This group never waivers from its mission, frequently going above and beyond what other groups would considering doing to help animals in need. From pets in need of serious social and physical rehabilitation to pets who no longer have a home as their owners could not keep them, S.T.A.A.R. is there to work with them and keep them safe and loved until they find their forever home, no matter how long it takes. THIS IS ONE SPECIAL PLACE!

I have been a supporter of South Texas Animal Adoption for over 10 years, they are one of the organizations to whom I make a monthly commitment. We have gotten two amazing animals from them and they have provided care for so many other dogs that we have come to know and love. The volunteers work extraordinarily hard to create an amazing place filled with love for the dogs who are there temporarily (waiting for a new home) or long term (rehabilitation, eldercare). They operate on a shoestring budget and are in constant need of donations, help, etc. They have undergone some recent tragedies (a fire took out their main building a couple of years ago) and have managed to keep going. They are currently seeking to raise funds for the reconstruction as well as care for all of the wonderful dogs.

I have adopted two dogs from STAAR and I was impressed as soon as I contacted this organization. From the first it was obvious that they truly cared for the dogs and wanted to make sure they made a good match.
It is so important to find the right dog for the right applicant. Cooper and Carmen were a perfect match for me.
Visiting the shelter I could see that the dogs were happy and healthy. It was obvious that they were loved and well cared for. I was particularly pleased that it was a no kill facility.
I spent some time volunteering and it was a very rewarding experience.
Staff and volunteers are well trained and do a great job.
