Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Civil Rights, Counseling, Family Counseling, Mental Health, Mental Health & Crisis Intervention

Mission: Nothing can prepare families for the sudden death of a loved one, or the impact of violent crime. Such events are truly traumatic and victims, as well as those that love them, can develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Traumatic grief is much different than anticipated grief. There is no time to say goodbye or address the unresolved issues that often occur during any relationship. The Center For Traumatic Grief And Victim Services has been serving traumatized families since 1987. It provides affordable specialized counseling services through individual family and group sessions for adults and adolescents; individual and group art/play therapy is offered for children. The Center For Traumatic Grief And Victims Services offers two highly successful programs designed to help families sort out the many questions that normally arise after a sudden death. Both programs combine group counseling with mentoring and an educational component that addresses how gender differences and various factors affect the grief process of those who are left behind. Long-term emotional support is also available through on-going counselor led support groups.
