Programs: Sd voices for children is the only nonprofit statewide organization that has as its sole purpose improving the lives of south dakota children through program and policy advocacy. The organization's focus changes in response to emerging issues that affect the health, education and safety of south dakota children. Current areas of advocacy address children in poverty, responsible and equitable government fiscal policies, early education adn child care, afterschool programs, children's mental health, juvenile justice, and safety south dakota's 221,000 children benefit from voices' vigilance to critical issues that affect their welfare. Updated editions of a parent resource were released (january 2011). A guidebook to the south dakota juvenile justice system and (december 2010) a parent's guide to the children's mental health systems in south dakota. The sd budget & policy project, a project of sd voices for children, launched a website (sdbudgetandpolicyproject. Org) in november 2010 and the sd budget primer in december 2010. Another voices' project, the sd afterschool partnership released a study, out-of-school time in south dakota- achieving program sustainability in september 2011.
