Horrible organization. Applied to adopt a dog and heard nothing from them other than they had received our application. Tried to contact via telephone and email at least 6 times -NO RESPONSE!!! Finally today after a week, I received an email taat the dog we applied for had been adopted and was going to its new home!!! I actually wonder if the dog ever really existed since the pictures on their site did not seem to be the same dog. RUN AWAY as fast as you can. There are other REPUTABLE rescues available.

Same bad experience like many of the others so I won't go into great detail. Submitted an application, but there was no response. Numerous phone messages and emails went unanswered. Waiting to hear from them delayed our search for a new dog by a month. The dog we were inquiring about was listed as a "long timer" and is still available. We will never consider using them again.

As others have stated this is a very elitist, entitled organization that masks themselves as a rescue for dogs. One red flag is that this rescue has no address and gives the excuse that they are just foster only but a business SHOULD have an address. After filling out a very invasive application you are told that you will be contacted within 72 hours but that is false as they do not respond and seem irritated if you call and leave voicemails to check on your application. I believe from filling out the application myself and reading other reviews that if you do not fit "their" ideal mold of what a perfect dog owner should be then you are not worth their time. I am fine with this but do not keep the applicant waiting, DENY the APPLICATION so the applicants can move on! I was smart enough and went to a more local shelter after waiting 4 days for a beautiful forever home dog and the shelter will get my money and support as rightfully deserved.

Read the reviews!!! Listen to the reviews unlike I did. I applied 4 weeks ago and still have never received any type of response after my initial confirmation email. Even if they didn’t want to choose me - which is fine it really is! At least give the courtesy of sending an email saying someone application has been denied. I tried calling them 6 times and my husband called 3, left voicemails and never heard back. We decided to attend a meet and greet hoping it would be better in person - it wasn’t. We were told there were lots of applicants and we would hear back soon and we still haven’t. Seemed like if you didn’t have a fenced in yard and worked from home you wouldn’t be chosen. Save your time and energy and go to a shelter.

I have 40 years of experience with rescue dogs. I own a home with lots of property and am home during the day too! I take my dog on vacation!!! I filled out the 11 pages on the adoption form. A week later I am told that I live too far away. If I am willing to make the two hour trip to the facility, why are they so RIGID? I sent vet references as well as personal. It is stated on their website, "Dont fall in love with a dog by their photo and yet they ask which dog you are interested off of photos on Petfinder. They say, "Every dog is, sweet, cute and ready for their forever home." They are NOT transparent about any behavioral issues the dog may have that need addressing. These people are more interested in their social media than really finding good homes for the dogs. I keep hearing how "overcrowded" rescues are. I found a great dog that needed rehoming elsewhere. Meanwhile the same dog that I inquired about is still up for adoption. Whata shame.

Did not bother to respond one way or another to my plea for help with an abandoned mama dog on October 10th. I WILL NOT support this organization in the future, my help will go to a more responsible organization.

We had to give Chance back. He bit me one too many times. One of the volunteers, I guess (they never called me back) said she told me Chance bit. She NEVER told me that. She said he might "nibble on your toes". This dog bit me so many times. I even had to have surgery. Then she sent me a scathing text telling me she felt sorry for my dog AND my husband. Chance is a one-person dog, and my husband was that person. I, and people who have met and/or been bit by Chance, couldn't believe her text or the description of Chance on the website.. He is not friendly. We kept him for 19 months, but I'm so terrible. LOL Terrible experience. Now, we have a sweet puppy who loves us both. Role really is "Client NOT served."

I applied to adopt a dog from SCDR. They denied my application because I was too old to adopt a puppy. Danielle, President of the board asked if I was interested in a senior dog. Total discrimination. I am reporting them to the state.

I have volunteered with this rescue for years and have had an amazing experience and seen so many success stories. I realize people get upset when they are not chosen to adopt, and want to go somewhere and vent. Apparently this is their place. South Charlotte Dog Rescue volunteers very carefully and thoughtfully sift through many applications and do their very best to place their rescue dogs in the best forever homes. Sometimes they do get overwhelmed with the volume of communication they receive, being a volunteer isn't an "excuse" - its just a fact. SCDR is a *rescue* -- not a shelter. They have the luxury of being able to place dogs in homes they match them with, hoping for the best possible outcome for both the family & the dog. They have placed thousands of homeless dogs in forever homes, so anyone who says they should be shut down because they personally didn't pass the process, shame on them. People who leave these nasty reviews just reinforce the decision made by SCDR's applications team. For a small, local, volunteer run rescue who is adopting and saving well over 300 dogs every year - they are pretty freaking fantastic.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! They never reach out after you apply, and they are unprofessional and use their volunteer status as an excuse. I agree they should be shut down. I feel bad for the animals.

My story is the same as all the other. No response to emails, voicemails or even the adoption application. I agree they need to be shut down. Very unprofessional.

This was the worst experience I have ever had with a rescue. My husband and I have had several dogs, all of them rescues, and this is by far the worst rescue organization we have ever tried to work with. They were extremely condescending, treating my husband and I like would be horrible dog owners because we did not have a fenced in yard. We finally met a dog and had a home visit with a dog they said we “qualified” for. However, after spending over two weeks going through the application process and having our home visit, we never heard anything from them again. I called, emailed, and messaged them and got no answer. A couple weeks later, the dog we were interested in was taken down from their website; so I assume he was adopted, but no one contacted us to let us know. These people are entitled and selfish and do not put the best interest of the dogs first. Go to any other rescue, do not waste your time!

Terrible! Horrible communication, despite repeated calls and emails, you cannot get a straight answer on if you're eligible to adopt despite filling out all required information. Discriminatory practices within the organization on which race gets to adopt. TERRIBLE.

My story doesn't end happy and the process to adopt a dog was very unprofessional to say the least. We applied 5 weeks ago and passed 2 of their 4 criteria only to find out yesterday that the dog stayed with the foster family. Communication was horrible. Emails sent went unanswered such as "how old is the dog or are we still being considered". Yesterday, i reached out via Facebook messenger and was told the upsetting news. I was warned of such a scenario of false hope it seems to me that they are in business for their own benefit This organization needs to be shut down.!!
