Mission: Every day, over 5,000 people in South Asia become infected with the HIV/AIDS virus. UNAIDS predicts that, by 2005, almost 40 million people in South Asia will be HIV-positive, a number equal to 2000’s global HIV/AIDS total. The virus’ devastation in the developing world is almost beyond comprehension, compounded by conditions of extreme poverty. The global spread of HIV/AIDS is the worst epidemic in the history of humankind and threatens world security. SAAAIDS believes that it is up to each one of us to understand the responsibilities of planetary citizenship and to take international action to address the virus.
