Mission: Sound Outreach’s mission is to empower Pierce County residents to achieve their financial dreams through an integrated model of coaching and counseling to reach personal financial security.
Results: In 2020, of our 3,133 clients, 64% created Financial Action Plans, 58% increased their credit scores by an average of 56 points, 33% increased their Financial Well-Being Score, and 50 clients gained employment.
Target demographics: Sound Outreach provides guidance, direction, and support to economically vulnerable populations in Pierce County. Our staff treats every client with respect and compassion. We look beyond initial needs and explore opportunities for each individual and family to find financial security for long-term stability and independence.

Geographic areas served: The heart of Hilltop, Tacoma, Pierce County, WA
Programs: Assisting residents suffering from financial insecurity through financial counseling, employment coaching, and access to financial capital. We serve ALICE communities as part of an overarching regional effort to lift 15,000 people out of poverty. Our organizational model is adaptable to serve the unique needs of the diverse communities we serve, including adult learners, senior citizens, immigrants and refugees, and small business owners. Sixty-one percent of our clients are non-white and eighty-three percent of our financial and employment coaching clients are women. Sound Outreach is committed to equity, diversity, access, and becoming an anti-racist, multicultural organization. Our internal “SO Diverse” team created a DEI Action Plan to guide our work.
