Causes: Emergency Assistance, Human Services
Mission: Some other place exists to provide emergency services to indigent or catastrophe-stricken families.
Programs: Emergency services provided food, shelter, utility assistance, housing assistance, medication assistance, clothing, household/other in-kind assistance, special programs assistance, and/or referral assistance. Over 3,911 families, representing more than 7,084 individuals, received emergency services. The some other place home delivered meal program currently has 223 homebound individuals on the program based on their needs. The back to school program served 365 families representing 915+ children served with new school clothing, supplies & backpacks. Due to hurricane harvey replacement clothing and supplies were provided to some (as available) that were lost in the flooding and additional children and schools were served with school supplies. The thanksgiving store provided traditional thanksgiving foods to 400+ families, representing an estimated 1,000 individuals. The thanksgiving day meal provided over 200 meals served on site and 200 meals home delivered by over 100 volunteers. The nutrition center served 102,253 meals during the year, both on-site and home-delivered. Henry's place, which provides a brief respite from the streets for the homeless, received more than 9,321 visits. The giving tree christmas program served 880 children, 200 home delivered meals, and 750 nursing home residents. The christmas day meal served over 200 meals on site and 200 meals were home delivered by temple emanuel and other volunteers. Sop received (as best we could keep count) 5,343 phone calls for assistance in 2017. All of these services are made possible with support from the local community.
