Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Solano Community Animal Response Team (Solano CART) is a volunteer-led, nonprofit organization that works in cooperation with local agencies to ensure the best possible outcome for animals in Solano County and other areas who need assistance during an emergency. Our mission is to equip Solano County animal owners for the next disaster through networking and education. We are educating and assisting animal owners, governmental and non-governmental agencies and animal owners about the importance of disaster preparedness via educational material including, but not limited to, publications, public service announcements, lectures, educational presentations and on-site visits. Our volunteers complete a full range of disaster preparedness training, including education on the FEMA Incident Command System, monthly lectures, training exercises and disaster drills.

This group was formed with a group of Volunteers that wanted to help the community during natural disasters. In a short time they went to the status of Disaster Service Workers, each person has to go through training, both hands on and certificates from classes online. I am proud to be a part of this team of volunteers. During the off time they offer Disaster Action Plans and during the last fires it helped save many animals. Solano CART is awesome.

EXCELLENT disaster response, so critical to have Solano CART in this county! Instead of animals being left to “shelter in place”, ie, abandoned to the fire, Solano CART was there and waiting each time Lucky Ones Ranch needed help during the firestorm. First in May, and then again for the Glass Fire in August, which destroyed the property within minutes. Solano CART came in the middle of the night within minutes and evacuated the horses and large animals. Cannot recommend them enough. Thank you so much!!! :)

They have become a great resource for our county. In our last fire, they rescued over 200 animals. The people are really great and we really appreciate having them help when we need it. Great job, Solano CART.

About two years ago, Vicki Dawson held a community meeting as a result of the Napa fire reaching our community. She was determined to create a group that could help the community prepare for such disasters as well as help them when one should happen. I became part of the group realizing that we needed help in this area having many horses and other animals that we would need to evacuate if a fire should reach our ranch. Well, as luck would have it we were instructed to evacuate on 8/18 due to the LNU complex fire heading toward us. Having not thought about how to get everyone out safely a million times and being part of Solano CART it would have NEVER have gone as smoothly as it did for us.

There are many others in the community that feel the same way and are grateful for the insight that this group has given them, allow them to be prepared for the worse!
Solano CART is an integral part of Solano County and will be for years to come! The work hard, train hard and are always looking for ways to give back.
