I first learned about Marily Woodhouse and her work on behalf of the Battlecreek Alliance in 2009 or 2010. The more I learned about her passionate activism on behalf of the Battle Creek Watershed in Shasta and Tehama Counties in Northern California the more I respected her. Operating virtually alone, Marily has waged a fierce campaign to educate the public about the dangers and costs of clearcutting and the severe damage this process inflicts on the watershed, the ecosystem and the diversity of life it supports. Sadly, the clearcutting continues and Marily needs more financial support to continue her efforts. In addition to her work on behalf of the forest and the watershed, Marily has also been a champion of some of the most spectacular birds in our area, eagles, hawks and owls through her work with the Defiance Canyon Raptor Rescue program. We can wish that a state or federal agency was hard at work protecting, rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife but that isn't going to happen. We need to support Marily and the programs she has developed to preserve and promote the health and vitality of the forest, watershed and wildlife in our region. She does so much with so little. She is a powerhouse and needs our support to continue her important work.

Over the last 11 years Battle Creek Alliance has been the major advocate for the forests of the Battle Creek Watershed often standing alone in opposition to the destruction of the intricate ecological web forests create. As part of its' mission BCA has been central in two educational forums in Redding; 2011, 2015 and being part of Whole Earth Festival, Redding, for four years and one year at the Honey Bee Festival in Palo Cedro. It has offered an ecological viewpoint very different from the prevailing economic imperatives of Shasta County.

I know the work Marily Woodhouse with Defiance Canyon Raptor Rescue has done educating the public about the importance of raptors to the environment and ways the public can help protect them. She has a good outreach with a booth she sets up at various fairs and festivals to get the message out, and excellent display. She also takes her message to various groups when she can and feels that starting with children is the most important. She worked a number of years on wildlife rehabilitation before branching out with her own organization.
She also works to protect the Battle Creek watershed by speaking out against clearcut logging in the area. She is not afraid to stand up to Sierra Pacific Industries if she feels they are in the wrong. You can always trust her to give an honest and informed answer on her areas of expertise.

I was honored to help gather signatures on behalf of the Battle Creek Alliance Raptor Rescue at the Earth Day watershed festival in Redding. Bob Madgic *famous author of "The Sacramento: A Transcendent River"* signed our petition to California Governor Brown asking for his action in protecting our local forests from clear-cutting. It was a wonderful event with many booths in addition to ours. Patti and Terry were amazing and inspirational. Hope is a cup future generations can drink from :)
Cheers

Sol Communications does an amazing job, with many programs, including the super important stopclearcuttingcalifornia.org and geoengineeringwatch.org , which are two crucially important web sites with so much important information, bringing attention to huge problems that many people are simply unaware of. This organization runs on a shoestring budget, and is well worthy candidate for our precious donations!
