Mission: The purpose of the society is to promote, plan, coordinate and assist in the production of an annual winter carnival ("carnival") to be held each year during the first fifteen days of february in and around the village of saranac lake, ny. Attendees are citizens of the village and the surrounding townships of north elba, harrietstown and st. Armand as well as visitors a like. The main activities of the carnival are held in the village. Various carnival activities include contests, events, shows, outings, activities and meetings. The carnival seeks to foster a festival-type atmosphere in order to attract residents and non-residents to the area.
Programs: Each year the activities of the winter carnival culminate on the final weekend. The first of these culminating events is the parade attended by thousands. The parade offers a perfect mid-winter break for the residents and nonresidents of the frozen environment. A more festive environment cannot be found.
the spectacular fireworks displays are held at the interactive ice palace, the centerpiece of the winter carnival, during the opening and closing ceremonies. These displays have become some of the most anticipated gatherings of the winter carnival.
