Mission: To increase knowledge of and promote research in inborn errors of metabolism in humans, and to stimulate interactions between clinicians and investigators in inborn errors of metabolism. To seek to foster training and maintenance of a core of qualified investigators and practitioners in the field and to promote public understanding of inborn errors of metabolism.
Programs: No annual meeting was held in the united states in 2017. The society for inherited metabolic disorders (simd) participated in an international meeting held in rio de janiero, brazil hosted by brazil. The meeting was held september 3-8, 2017. There were four other international metabolic societies who participated in this meeting. This international meeting is held every four years. There were approximately 2,000 people in attendance.
during the year, the simd offered one course to trainees in in the fields of medical genetic and biochemical genetic metabolism. A total of 48 students attended these courses.
during the year, the simd worked to create a web-based newborn screening education program with funds received from the center for disease control.
