Causes: Social Science
Mission: Social science conferences inc was chartered in 1982 to create and organize conferences on topics of interest to the social sciences. In the ensuing 30 years conferences has been broadly interpreted to include weekend, month-long, and academic year meetings in person and on the web.
Programs: Center for human science-the center conducts year-long conferences for a select group of 12 receipients of ssci fellowships. Fellows are responsible for their share of the cost of occupancy, but can apply for grants to help defray their expenses. During the 2010-11 academic year, the center housed fellows from economics, environmental science, marine science, engineering, urban planning, political science, sociology, computer science, anthropology, film studies, and social psychology.
human science clubrooms-to recognize the increasing role of center alumni who still wish to be involved in its activities even after they have moved out, and to better involve social scientists from throughout the triangle, the center is moving in the direction of fixing up its meeting rooms, organizing its collection of books, and has expanded its meal service to five lunches and five dinners per week. Members pay their share of the cost.
ssci - to organize classes related to the social sciences. Ssci offers housing grants to those students that participate in the classes. The grants may be used toward their participation in the center for human science program.
