Although I have not had any direct contact with Snowball Express the last few years the things they were doing for Military Families was world class. Since the Gary Sense Foundation took over Snowball Express I do not believe that same world class service to Military Families has changed. Hope to make it back to Snowball Express soon.

I have been volunteering with Snowball Express for over 5 years now. What they continue to do day in and day out to ensure that the families of fallen service members are not forgotten is amazing. Being at many of their events you can see it on the families faces especially the kids that Snowball they appreciate what is being done for them at these events.
I've been volunteering for Snowball for the last four years. The gift to the kids and their family of military personnel who have a deceased parent is beyond description. The children enjoy every moment from the time we pick them up with our aircraft decorated for Christmas to the minute we deliver them back to their homes via one of our jets... giving the gift of a wonderful adventure to these children and their surviving parents and family members is a great thank you to the service the military does for our country... snowball express is a great gift for the children who someday will be running our country ... as a crew member we decorate the aircraft, we decorate ourselves, we play games we sing songs we feed the kids we make every minute of their flight something to remember always. Has been my great privilege and honor to volunteer at Snowball Express

I'm a flight attendant for American Airlines and every year I volunteer for Snowball express to bring the families of our fallen soldiers to Dallas ...we decorate the airplane for Christmas we decorate ourselves we fly from base to base picking up the families feeding them ,laughing with them ,singing with them ,giving them gifts and bring them to Dallas for an amazing few days of fun and frolic... These children and family members of the soldiers that have served our country ...need and deserve a little cheer and happiness in their lives because their losses have been huge... It's a very rewarding amazing and humbling experience to be part of the Snowball express family ...
Snowball Express is an amazing organization for the Children of Fallen Soldiers. I have been volunteering for this charity for 10 years. I got involved, because my nephews were snowball kids. They lost there dad in Sept 2008. They got to go to Disney Land and other fun places in California, just 3 months after losing their dad. It was a great healing process for them and for there mom. They were getting ready to enter the holiday season without their dad and husband, they had to learn a new normal, if you could call it normal. Allowing them to be around other kids and spouses going through the same thing they were has such a huge impact on their healing process. Knowing it was OK to breakdown when talking about their dad, and not getting looked at funny, being able to talk about their dad and what happened to him to others that had the same experiences, there is nothing else that compares to that, in the healing process. In 2009, Snowball Express came to Dallas, I knew I had to be apart of it, because it had such an impact on my family. So I signed up to be a volunteer, and I have been doing it every year since. I have made amazing connections with kids and family members, in the years that I have been volunteering. I have made life long friendships, and I have been able to help kids, and be there for them, not just during SBE, but all year long. A text, a call, just to chat, or cry, I am always there. I think the fact that I know first hand what SBE is all about and what it can do, because it has helped my family, makes it easier for me to help others and for them to be able to relate to me. Every year new families are added to the Snowball Express family, and I wish that was not the case. I wish we did not have to have this organization, but we do, and it is amazing. It helps these kids heal from the most devastating loss there is as a child. If you are ever looking for an organization to support, please look into Snowball Express, I guarantee the money is well spent in giving these kids the trip of a lifetime, to have fun, and meet kids just like them, suffering just like them, hurting just like them, and learning to heal just like them!
I became involved with Snowball Express by way of my assignment in the Arizona National Guard. The AZNG had suffered several casualties during the War on Terror and these losses had a deep and profound impact throughout the force. In coordination with American Airlines, AZNG mustered about 50 volunteers to support the departure and arrival of Snowball Express families in Phoenix. This became an annual event and the volunteers, some of whom had known the fallen, unhesitatingly stood up. The growing sense of family was clearly evident and all participants looked forward to sharing their experiences as well as seeing the children grow and smile again. Personally, I donate to Snowball Express every year as I have seen for myself the joy and healing it brings to the ones left behind. Freedom is not free!

Worked directly with Snowball Express for several when with Arizona National Guard. Got to know the operation through American Airlines and the families of the fallen. Such a noble and caring venture. The debt owed the families that suffered the ultimate sacrifice can never be repaid. The comments shared with me from the widows and children made it clear to me that Snowball Express is the real deal when it comes to giving hope and comfort to those who grieve.
It has been my great honor to serve these precious familes of our Fallen Warriors for the last 6 years. As an American Airlines flight attendant, volunteering to bring our Snowball Express families to their special weekend is a very small way to say thank you for the sacrifice they have made to our country. Snowball Express provides a platform for these families to share experiences that can only be understood by others just like themselves. Snowball Express deserves every opportunity to continue providing this gift to these families.
I volunteered for the first time last year. I had no idea what an impact the community has on Gold Star families. I was so honored to assist with a group like Snowball Express who really cared about each and every member of the family. Each staff member and volunteer exuded professionalism, integrity, but most of all...Love. It is an amazing organization to be a part of and support.
Snowball Express has been a blessing for my son. This is the ONLY event he looks forward year after year. He has created everlasting friendships and memories that has helped him cope with the loss of our hero. As a parent this has been rewarding to see my son smile and have fun for those 5 days where he gets to be a normal happy kid. This will be his last year attending as a goldstar child because he is aging out, yet he has taken upon himself to continue to come back as a volunteer. This is how much of an impression snowball express has made on my son and myself. We are forever grateful for the experience and are looking forward to volunteering in the future. #payitforward

We are one of many gold star families that attend each year. We lost our fallen hero in 2007 and have been graciously blessed to have attended snowball express. This event has touched our lives in more ways i can ever express, i have watched my son go from shy to very sociable because of snowball and the ability for him to interact with other families and children who are in the same position we are in. Theres no need to explain yourself and why ur here, as its already understood. My son and i look forward to this every year because its almost like a giant family reunion. The volunteers are amazing, always with a smile on their face and ready to play w the kids. I dont know where they get all that energy, nevertheless we are blessed and thankful to have them. And to Mr. Buck Kern and the members of the board, without ur strategic planing and fundraising this event wouldnt be possible. Thank u for everything u have done for us we are forever grateful and thankful to everyone involved. The smile on my sons face is priceless and i dont often get to see it... until snowball time and then it turns into a non stop contagious smiling and laughing for days! Thank you!
I have served as a volunteer for Snowball Express for the last five years. It is an experience that has allowed me to give back in a small way to the families of those men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for my freedom. To see the smiling faces of their kids and know that this time at Snowball Express is healing their spirits is a gift to me. I have watched friendships grow and families come together during their time at Snowball. It is an awesome program and it is run by exceptional, giving volunteers.

A wonderful organization committed to serving the children of our military men/women who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom since 9/11. I have worked for the past four years in the command center and have witnessed volunteers going above and beyond their assignments in order to make sure that these kids have a fun and healing experience. It is awesome to see how such a monumental undertaking unfolds each year and the growth that the organization has made.
Last year was my first year to volunteer with Snowball Express. I was so blessed to be a part of something that was so impactful for the families of our fallen soldiers. I plan to volunteer for many more years. I tell everyone I know about this organization and their events.
Blessed Beyond Measure
I was part of the working crew members for SBE 2016. We flew into LAX to decorate the plane the night before. In the morning, we flew families of fallen heroes from LAX to SMF to PHX, then finally DFW. It was the most exhausting day of my entire 33 year career at American Airlines, but the most memorable. I have signed up again this year to help make special moments for the heroes families. It is definitely a worthwhile event to be a part of.
The people that volunteer are so committed to the children they serve. It is awesome to be a part of the team to serve our veterans
Snowball Express was and continues to be our rainbow after the storm. They know how to make our families feel loved and included. We have made some lifetime friends and unforgettable memories. They give some much and ask for NOTHING in return. We love SBE!
Snowball Express is an absolutely amazing organization that sends military widows/widowers and their children on an all expense paid 5 day trip where you are surrounded not only by a couple thousand people that have experienced similar loss and trials as you but also by volunteers who love on you, support you and honor your fallen soldier. It is a time of bonding and making new friendships that last a lifetime along with having fun and opportunities you might otherwise not be able to experience. The city of Dallas/Ft Worth opens their arms up to us. We have police escorts, fireman and civilian lining the streets and highways we travel and a Walk of Remembrance that will make anyone tear up as you see the love and support they give us. During the day we do all sorts of fun activities and at night they take the kids and let us have a much needed break. Another really neat event they do is taking the kids "shopping" in the Neiman Marcus store so they can get their surviving parent a Christmas gift. Before my son attended Snowball Express, I never got a present from him as his daddy was the one that would always take the kids out to buy presents for me. You laugh, you cry, you have fun and meet new people and strengthen the relationships with those you may only see once a year at this event. Thanks for the memories, Snowball Express!
I am grateful and humbled for the opportunity to serve with and for Snowball Express. I know their mission, vision, and goals. As one who volunteers with Snowball Express I watch miracles take place everyday of Snowball Express.
I watch children who have walked through tragedy at a young age that most of us could not even imagine. I see these precious children of our honored fallen heroes encounter understanding and form meaningful relationships with peers who know and have known in real time the challenges they face and overcome. I see joy come into the faces of the children that as a civilian I would have thought would be impossible. I watch these children, parents, guardians, and grandparents gain increased strength, vision, new dreams, and restored purpose.
I come to Snowball Express to serve these families I have grown to love in whatever manner possible. When I made the decision to volunteer for Snowball Express I asked myself “Why do you want to serve?”. I continued to ponder this for a few days.
I thought of our Gold Star families’ fallen Hero. Then came my answer. These words wrote on my heart from the perspective of their Hero (their mom, dad or both):
“ You want to thank me, you want to honor me, then take care of my family”.
This is my “Why”.
Serving with Snowball Express is fun and fulfilling. But do not mistake it is not easy. We work and do whatever it takes to provide our Gold star families with happy memories.
The only way to serve optimally in this venue is to be willing to give it all you got and this is different for each person.
The leadership and staff of Snowball Express watch out and care for our Gold star families, volunteers, and staff so you do not have to be a rocket scientist or an olympian. Just be someone who comes with their heart and commitment. The staff and captains will provide you with the directions needed to serve. You do not need to be a veteran or belong to an organization although all are welcome.
I went online and read about Snowball Express’s mission, vision, goals, and results. I filled out the online form to volunteer. I am not part of a group just an individual civilian. Snowball Volunteer services reached out to me and that is how I started.
This year will be my fourth year to serve with Snowball Express. What I began to realize
over the years is how much Snowball Express has changed me. My heart has enlarged in ways I do not have the words to express.
Volunteering with Snowball Express is a treasured opportunity. The lives touched every year is priceless.
Respectfully,
Fostina W. Gurley
I know kids of fallen soldiers that love the things this organization does for them. I am a huge fan of Snowball Express based on the information I get from them.
This is the best help for the children of fallen, my wife have been working with pleasure in the sewing room putting patches on leather vest the P G R gives them, what a joy to be involved with this.
Last year was my first experience with Snowball Express. Working with the people in this organization and seeing how they help people is incredible. I will be volunteering my time this year and every year as long as I am able.
What an unbelievable showing of support to our families of those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country! American Airlines employees, many of whom are USAF Veterans, take such great pride in supporting this charity!
This will be our 3rd and final Snowball. My son is graduating H.S. next year. I am so grateful to ALL Snowball Express Staff and volunteers. My Son and my Husband were each others, Best Buddies. He is an introverted, except when he is at Snowball with the friends he met 3 yrs ago. They keep in contact periodically via text We live in an area, with no military facilities or familes nearby. So, Being a part of the Snowball family has, given us the opportunity to meet life long friends. Who understand us full of joy and laughing and maybe 5 minutes later cryjng our eyes out.
Snowball is the number ONE Non-Profit in my family.

Can't say enough nice things about Snowball Express (SBE) and it's staff. They are a truly amazing group of dedicated and caring individuals who go above and beyond to serve the deserving children of our country's fallen military heroes. You just need to visit the SBE program in Dallas once to see the tireless effort, the unselfish dedication, and the culmination of a year's hard work that goes into serving these children and their surviving spouse, or Gold Star volunteer over the course of a five day event.
And then there are the countless number of other volunteers who come together over these 5 days to make certain that this event is bigger and better than it was the year before. Why, because these children deserve this and the volunteers are committed to making this an event that they can appreciate now and remember for years to come.
This will be my 10th year to volunteer. It's one of a select few charities that gets my support and money every year.
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. And since these military men and women made their sacrifice, volunteering to assist SBE and these surviving children is the least I can do. I was blessed and never got drafted for VietNam. This is my 'draft' and the the least I can do to support such a worthy cause.
2nd year serving with Snowball Express on Military Appreciation day at the Texas State Fair. Its always a pleasure meeting new people and hearing stories from our vets. The people I serve with are amazing and always out to make sure we have everything we need. I look forward to helping make this December a success.
Everyone should see this most incredible heartfelt compassion that Snowball Express, American Airlines and sponsors put on for one the most deserving of causes. If for just brief fleeting moments, Snowball Express provides so many diversions for our military families from the wretched agony of loss that our greatest of heroes families suffer constantly when their loved ones are taken protecting the greatest nation.
It is a venue where life long bonds are forged where wives and mothers, fathers, sons and daughters can laugh together and can cry together. They can visit and visit and visit and relate and relate and relate, where the rest of the world simply cannot. It is such agony of despair and sorrow that each of them can share and gather some hope of inner peace and knowing that so many others have experienced such devastating fate. It gives everyone the strength to ' keep on, carrying on'.
It is just such an honor for all of the people involved with Snowball Express. The generosity of the sponsors, the corner stone and stellar support from American Airlines, that for myself and my winsome little pug where she provided such a multitude of smiles after smiles, comments and pictures from unmeasured attendees.
Everyone should see what a blessing, moving and so humbling of an experience that it is.

As a Patriot Guard Rider, I was introduced to Snowball Express 10 years ago. When I saw what they were doing for the families of our men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice, I could not stop thinking about it. I have been involved every since, and when I see families and kids that I have seen before, and they remember me, it usually brings me to tears.
I no longer take my bike, and am now a full time volunteer. Seeing the healing and bonding among the families is the greatest enjoyment of my year, each and every year.
My nephew, his wife and my cousin have been in the military for years. I've heard many great things about the Snowball Express. I support them as one of my go-to charities! Thanks to Gary Sinese too! Good luck!
I have volunteered with the Snowball Express for the last two years. I just love how organized they are and the sincere attention to details for every family. They extend themselves over and over again. The first time I volunteered I was in the children's section. Loved how they protected the surroundings of all and made it a fun time to volunteer. Last year, I was placed at the entrance to help the families with directions after getting off the bus. What a great time it was to be able to help in this area. This is one of the best places to volunteer and receive your reward before you leave the parking lot. The reward is the feeling of being a blessing to so many lives!!!!!!!
My niece lost both of her parents when she was Age 5, December 2016 was her first Christmas without her parents. Attending the Snowball Express at December was an awesome experience for her. She felt so much love from all of the volunteers and all of the people that were in attendance at the event. She came away saying that this was the best Christmas ever. Thank you so much for having an event like this to make the children feel so very special.
This is the most wonderful creation..it allows the children of the fallen to know they are not alone ,that they can have friends that understand what they r going thru ....As well as remove some of that pay for a few days and enjoy laughter again
This is such a worth. While charity.these. children of fallen. Military have so much fun .I have volunteered.many years and it brings tears to my eyeswhen they deplane and they are so excited.
I’ve been a volunteer for Snowball Express for 10 years. I am also a charter coordinator on one of the flights for the families. These families have become my family. The families and volunteers giving so much love and support back to one another, and organization giving so much back to the families, plus the military support make this a great charity. Once you’re involved with Snowball Express, you’re changed for life and realize the sacrifices these families have given for our ultimate freedoms.
I have been a volunteer with Snowball Express the last 8 years. Watching the smiles and joy of the families that have suffered so much if a great satisfaction.
As an American Airlines flight attendant, volunteering to Crew for Snowball Express is by far one of the most rewarding events we participate in year after year. I will never fully be able to thank our SBE families for the ultimate sacrifice that their loved one made for our nation. Participating onboard an SBE charter flight, making memories with our families, getting to hear stories about their Fallen Warrior, bringing these families together for a brief time of sharing.... this is Snowball Express. They deserve every great thing we can give them.
This organization is so very special to the way they love ❤️ and honor the Families of our Fallen. They go out of their way to make the Families feel important. From the special walk of gratitude to Gary Sinese and the LT Dan Band playing for hours and loving on the children giving them their own Teddy Bears. To all of the sponsors like American Airlines who fly the Families in from all over the world. To the Patriot Guards and the local law enforcement making the drive around the city safe for all of the Families. To making sure the guardians are given time away from their children and getting pampered with massages and facial treatments. To all of the volunteers who make it work each and every minute of each day for the Families. I couldn’t begin to say how much this is one of the best organizations out there for the Families of the Fallen. They are a blessing to all who are involved with Snowball Express. ♥️
2016 was our first year attending, and everyone made us feel so loved and welcomed!!! The staff was AMAZING!!!!! All the volunteers who help with SBE will be blessed beyond their wildest dreams bc they sure made it a HUGE deal to appreciate our children and our loved one in a wonderful way.
having been part of Snowball Express found it to be a very rewarding and special experience if anyone can be come a part of highly recommended. cj
I brought a team of teens to volunteer at the Snowball Express Program in December 2016. These kids were deeply moved to see the photos of fallen heroes clutched by their kids and the smiles of expectation for the new arrivals. It was one of the most fantastic projects that we volunteered at all year! I was so impressed with their care for the families of our fallen heroes. They had thought of everything. We must invest in the kids of our fallen service members, and Snowball Express does an amazing job building a massive volunteer force and designing a fantastic program to make the holidays brighter for these hurting kids!
Snowball Express has been a wonderful experience for my family during a period of our lives that has been devastating. Snowball allows children who have lost a military parent to spend a few fun-filled days with other children who have suffered the same loss surrounded by hundreds of people who love and support them. There is no cost to the families who attend Snowball Express. The first time my children attended Snowball was the first time I saw my children show a shimmer of true happiness through their sadness. Additionally, Snowball Express put my family in touch with resources that provided assistance throughout the year. Thank you Snowball for putting a smile on my children's faces and showing them that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
I have hosted a number of events with Snowball Express and found them to very professional and all about the purpose. From planning meetings to gathering volunteers, they are well connected and always hit their mark when establishing goals. No one says no when asked to volunteer for Snowball Express!
The purpose of caring and providing for families of lost soldiers is a noble cause and I am proud to be a part of it!
My two grandchildren lost their mother 3 years ago from a road side bomb. They have both enjoyed being picked up by chartered American Airlines plane and flown to Dallas to take part in Snowball Express. The biggest benefit has been having them partake in Snowball activities with all the other children who have the same or similar experiences.
There are so many families that have abruptly had their lives changed forever. Being a part of honoring and catering to these families has enriched my life. It is truly one of the best ways to thank these families for the sacrifice their loved one made for our freedom. Doesn't matter what capacity you are able to be a contributor. Whether you are a sponsor, a professional or a volunteer....BE A PART OF SNOWBALL EXPRESS!!
I volunteered last December for the Snowball Express Christmas event and was totally amazed at the job they do. I met a young girl who had been touched by the benefits Snowball Express provides. This was one of many trips she had been on with Snowball Express. Her attitude and appreciation for what was being done for her and the other children made me a volunteer for life!!
I've worked with Snowball Express for the past 6 years as a volunteer and I can say unequivocally that they serve the families of our fallen military in a meaningful and often times life changing way. We are proud of our affiliation with Snowball Express and encourage others to volunteer, donate and participate in any way possible.
I became involved in SE last year, I volunteered as an RN for Medical. This is the most amazing organization for families of our Gold Star Families. The support and love is amazing, and so appreciated by the families. I feel that volunteering my time is the very least I can do.
I have been volunteering with Snowball Express for several years. For me, it is extremely gratifying and inspiring. The work SE does helping families of fallen heroes/soldiers is incredibly worthwhile and uplifting. I see the results very concretely when the families spend time in Dallas each December. Many arrive somber and isolated. By the end of their experience here, the light is back in their eyes, and they have made friends for life. The children are the most wonderful, and helping to brighten their December holiday experience is priceless. Many thanks to Snowball Express for giving me the opportunity to make a difference.
As a Ride Captain with the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders, it has been my privilege for the past four years to help provide motorcycle escort as the buses travel to various locations and to interact with Gold Star Families. It always warms my heart to see the smiles on the faces of the kids and their moms as they come together for this annual event. Nothing can replace the loss of their loved one, but clearly the opportunity to bond with others who can relate to the pain they feel and to know that hundreds of donors and volunteers make this time together possible, means a great deal.

Snowball Express has been an amazing gift for my boys and I. We have made so many memories and friends!
Snowball Express is the most honorable and respectful organization I have ever been involved in. Hailey has attended 3 years and she anxiously awaits it each time she is able to come. The people who are involved with Snowball are so generous with their time, so supportive of Hailey's needs, and allow Hailey to gather with other children and families who are suffering the loss of a loved one. I am raising my grand daughter and am unable at times to provide activities that Hailey needs and this event allows me to provide them for Hailey in a positive and eventful way plus another way to pay tribute to her father. The compassion that is displayed year round by this organization is nothing short of amazement. There are not enough words in the dictionary to express my gratitude for Snowball express. A 5 star rating is not high enough rating I give it a 10 star rating out of 5.
This organization has touched my heart as well as many others. The children of our fallen military have not only lost a parent but their own feelings of who they are. It is hard for their peers to relate to them when they are unaware of the wars America has been involved in. Their peers, unknowingly, ask where their lost parent is. When they reply they were killed in the war, their peer will reply, "What war?", making them wonder why they have lost a parent to a cause that others don't know about.
Snowball Express allows these children to be with others who know and understand their loss. They get to let their sorrows out to others who DO understand. These few days they are surrounded by people who appreciate the losses these children, spouses and America has lost. They see the outpouring of love and support that they look forward to each year. A simple time to just enjoy childhood and be a kid. They get to feel special as every child should.
America is who we are because of its people and these little people are our future. Snowball Express knows this and so do these VIP's.
This will be my 5th Snowball Express to volunteer for. I consider the families part of my family. I am usually a quite person but when it comes to meet and greet the flights coming in I become a different person.( quite loud announcing our families as they get off the planes all the way back to where they line up for buses) I have added Carry the Load this year with Snowball Express and will again volunteer for the 5 and 10 K coming up in Fort Worth. Last year I added the fair.
Snowball Express is an amazing Charity for the children of Fallen Soldiers. These kids are effected by this huge life changing event, and it is hard on them, their friends don't understand, if they are sad, there friends cant relate. But when you get the snowball families together and they meet kids that are just like them, that can relate, that do understand, it is such a huge step in the healing process for them. They can break down and cry and not get looked at weird, they can talk about all the amazing memories they have with their hero, putting these kids together is priceless. Not only am I a Volunteer, but my 2 nephews are part of the Snowball family. They lost their dad 9 yrs ago, when they were 7 and 8 years old. Snowball has helped them tremendously as well as my sister in law who lost the love of her life. Not only is it great for the kids, it is great for the surviving spouse who can meet other spouses that have suffered the same loss. I am so honored to be a part of this amazing organization.
My granddaughter is a Snowball kid. She lost her dad in 2005 in Iraq. Since her dads death, her life hasn't always been easy but Snowball has always been there for her. She has made friends over the years who share her experience. The volunteers are awesome and they truly love these kids and the kids know they will never be forgotten. These kids truly are Americas Kids beause they have given so much to our country. Snowball allows the a few days at a time of the year where they are missing their mom or dad, to come together and just have fun. They are with other kids who know exactly what they have gone through. They can talk about their parents and be proud of who they were. The spouses have an opportunity to talk to each other and much needed resource people are on hand to help navigate they ins and outs of benefits. Throughout the year the organization will help to organize Snowflake events on a local level to allow the kids to interact throughout the year. I have been blessed to share this with her a few times and I too have made some lifelong friends. This organization provides so much for our kids and never loses focus of what these kids have been through and how to best help them grow into happy adults. God Bless Snowball and its volunteers.
I have participated as a volunteer for Snowball Express for 3 years. Nowhere will you find a better organized, more impactful support group for our families of fallen military heroes. It is easy to participate in whatever capacity suits you. The most compelling component for me is the appreciation and excitement expressed by the kids and mothers who are served by this annual event. I will be a part of it as long as I'm physically able.
The bonding experience and accommodation that are provided for my three children is truly unexplainable. The kids look forward to seeing everyone each year to laugh and cry!!! They have memories to share and new friendship to last their lifetime. As a parent I get to have the same experience with other parents by sharing stories and lessons to help us through these difficult times. The activities are so nice for the everyone and the volunteer are so awesome.
Snowball Express became part of our family after my son, Bryan, was killed in Afghanistan. Bryan's children attended their first Snowball Express and immediately made new friends that would not turn away when they mentioned their daddy. My wife and I volunteer each year at Snowball Express and while it's heartbreaking to see that many children without a mom or dad, it's also heart-warming to see how many volunteers and companies are supporting these families. And once you experience the "Walk of Gratitude" your perception of this organization is forever changed. Snowball Express will never forget our sacrifice, and to us that is golden.
As the survival spouse is very emotional, but rewarding to be able to have a few days off and get together with other ladies that are in a way in the same situation. For my kids emotional for the older kids and fun and for the little one an experience of exiting fun time off that he is ready to have every December. Im very thankful for the thoughtful people who put this idea in action, I just wished were for a different reasons.
Im sad, but proud that my husband was in the Army. I understand that everyone have specific job and a duty even if that means death.
Raising kids is not an easy job for one person.
Thank you Snowball for what you try to do by giving us the time to honor our love ones plus some fun.
So my wife's company helps facilitate Snowball in Dallas every year and for the last 4 years I have had the honor to volunteer on Setup and/or Arrival day. My 'First Year Story' isn't a happy one but one that taught me a lesson. This young woman and her maybe 4 year old daughter, choking back tears, came up to me and asked a few questions about things I unfortunately knew nothing about. I helped as much as I could but I knew I wasn't much help. I have been haunted by my inability to help her the way she needed, since that day. Right then and there, however, I made myself promise to NEVER let that happen again. This event every year allows me to come back and be 100 times better than I was that very first day. It is an honor to help these folks in their time of need and to give back as much as possible. I kid you not, the day after snowball ends I am SO very impatiently waiting for the next year's event. Snowball is such an amazing event in everything they do and I hope to NEVER miss an event. It will forever be on my calendar!
Such a wonderful organization! All the money raised goes straight to the programs Snowball supports; namely, giving the children of veterans who lost their lives in service to this country a chance to be with other kids in the same situation. The entire company pitches in, from the minute the family gets to the airport at their home location, to the all-volunteer flight crews, to the organizers and facilitators in Dallas.
Such an incredible organization! They love the families of your fallen heroes and show them the deepest love and respect!
My kids have gone to SBE for the last four years. It's an experience like no other. They get to meet other children in their shoes all while doing awesome activities that they sometimes otherwise would've never experienced.
Snowball Express is amazing! They give my son such an amazing time every year! We love how they honor the fallen men and women, we love sharing our story about my son's father, my husband. During a time that isn't always happy, they make sure we are smiling for that whole week. We love Snowball Express, and are honored to be invited to partake in such a wonderful organization!
Snowball Express is the BEST!!. It is one of the few nonprofits I have seen that actually makes a difference in kids' lives. Here are two quotes from the kid's moms that pretty much sums it up:
"The healing that my children get just by being with each other is better than professional therapy"
"It is the only time during the year that I get to see my children laugh and be happy for 5 days in a row"
Snowball Express is an amazing organization that works with children who have lost a family member during acts of war. To see their hopeless, sad eyes on day one, become rays of joy and hope joined with smiles on their faces by the end of the trip is truly a memorable experience. They know they are not alone, they are amongst other children that have had the same loss of a parent and that gives them strength. They learn to network and make long-lasting friends. Snowball Express lets these children know that people truly care about them and their loss and that is beyond anything the children could ask for. Thank you, Snowball Express for bringing light back into these children's worlds.
I volunteer along with my husband. I am in charge of the massage room.
I have listened to so many stories and cried. I have watched families hold each other up ,year after year! But in the midst of all the excitement we always remember why we are here... because every single one of our Gold Member Family has given the ultimate sacrifice... a life.
Our son died from a heart attack five years ago...2 weeks later I was about to do my second year of volunteering ... I didn't want to leave my sons graveside to volunteer but I did... because I had already committed. Even though I didn't want to go..I did.
Those snowball families... they comforted me!!!!!! THEY knew my pain and their words of comfort were real. Real because they knew exactly what I was going through... THEY HAD ALL LOST SOMEONE!!!
I will never forget the love and comfort I received from these women!
So every year I have a reunion not just volunteer... I look forward to seeing my Snowball families !!!
I see the importance of sharing your love as well as your grief!
I love being a volunteer at snowball express!
This is just my story... my husband, Danny has many of his own. He is the one who got me involved.
God Bless America and our military!
My daughter and I attended our first Snowball Express in December 2016. We were so overwhelmed by the love and details that went into this amazing event. We are so thankful to everyone for honoring my husband's legacy, his children.
I am a Goldstar Mother as well as a volunteer for the Snowball Express. I help every year because it does my heart good to give back to the children of our fallen angels. Seeing the looks on the kids faces as they get to experience a fun filled week just makes life a little bit better for a little bit longer. I will continue to help as long as possible. The volunteer who make this event possible are warm caring souls. Love them all!!
We love Snowball!! My kids look forward to it every year. Thank you for all that you do for the kids and their families.
I get to help our local USO host area Gold Star families while they wait for their plane to arrive for this awesome event! As a military brat & military spouse it warms my heart to see the bonds created between the Gold Star children & adults because of Snowball Express. I'm so thankful these families have a chance to connect with others who know their pain & understaned what they are going through! My dad is a Vietnam-era vet, so we know how those guys & their families were mistreated. It blesses my heart to see the special honor given these families by our local communtiy, loving on them & reminding them that they are not forgotten! One day I hope to volunteer for the event in TX.
Thank You Snowball Express!!! [That's me in the green costume in the attached pictures.]
Great time, well run & organized! It was an honor to serve our veterans families! Will do it again & again. Thanks guys!

This organization focuses on giving back to the children of our fallen since 9-11. They have brought comfort and fun back to my children after my husband, their father died in Afghanistan 5 years ago. My family has beautiful smiles, when my husband was alive we always had a smile on our faces. After he died we didn't smile as much. Snowball brought that back for my children. Thank you Snowball Express!
For several years I went to cheer for the fallen soldiers as they did the Walk of Gratitude. Children walked along with the marching band as they held tightly to their balloon which represents a deceased parent. At the end of the parade/walk they release their balloons and it’s incredibly emotional knowing so many have died for our freedom. I’ve had widows crying on my shoulder, seen families grieving together as tears fall from so many faces. But that sadness is quickly met with a Texas size of support and love. The volunteers then show the children and families a great time for nearly a week doing all sorts of events in the DFW area. It’s a great organization that gives back to the families that have the highest sacrifice.
Last year my family and I volunteered for the first time at Snowball and as a result our lives have been changed forever. Life is a struggle but nothing compares to what these kids are going though. The satisfaction my family, including my children got when watching these kids enjoy themselves was PRICELESS!!! We spoke about the different things that happened for weeks .The new perspective my girls (ages 10 and 11) were able to see and experience will always help them to remember life is so much bigger than their current problems. We will be volunteering again this year, and the years to come. If you have the time, PLEASE come out along with my family and many others, to help put smiles on these children’s faces. Trust me, you will never be the same person when you leave.
Have seen the joy on the faces of the children when they get to participate with others who have lost a parent and it is very rewarding.
The experience these families have is wonderful. The kids are treated to a three-day adventure. Each child is accompanied by a support person who may be a parent, grand parent etc. They get an equally wonderful "time-out". The services that families need access to like Veterans Administration, Social security, etc are all on-site to provide the necessary interface. To see these kids re-connect with the friends from previous years will leave you with tears. This is the only place where the "other" kids know what it is like to lose a parent.
Snowball Express is an experience of a lifetime. To be a volunteer and make life long friends with families that have sacrificed so much is one I will never forget. To see the smiles on the kids faces. The love and dedication that goes into Snowball is astounding!!
Snowball Express is an amazing way for families to come together to celebrate and remember their loved ones we have lost. They let the kids have a chance to be a kid again and enjoy life. They treat everyone with respect and admiration. The volunteers are the most amazing part, they are so thankful to be a part of this experience each year. We are so thankful for Snowball!
My 11 year old nephew passed away from a sudden illness on October 20th, 2016. I'm a U.S. Army Soldier on Active Duty, and after the funeral, I was selected to go to Snowball Express. While I was there as a volunteer, I wasn't aware that even though the focus is on families who have lost the service members of their families, the atmosphere cultivates helping all those who are survivors. I found healing from the motivation of helping others and being helped by others. I found an environment unlike anything I've ever witnessed from all over the world. I danced in a T-Rex costume to motivate a girl in knowing she was not alone up on stage for a talent show. I sang Fight Song at the top of my lungs to cheer up kids that were missing their dad a whole lot. I comforted a child who thought he couldn't have fun and go back to a normal childhood after the loss of his father. I met a lot of strong people, and most of them were about 9 years old. The staff of Snowball Express are more magical than those at Disney World; their kindness and generosity is absolutely astounding. There are times when everyone is laughing, and there's times when everyone is sad, but they are sad together, and they are sad in a joyful way. Snowball Express is not one of the best nonprofits out there, it is the best. It's on the Snowball Express that Grief is nurtured with Greatness.
Very Respectfully,
-SPC David Van Roeyen, U.S. Army
It brings people, and children together who have lost a loved one since 9/11. The are probably some of the best, caring people I've ever met. My kids love them
We took our first trip to Snowball Express December of last year and absolutely loved it! I would recommend this agency to any military family who has lost a spouse! They really love you and take care of you!
This will be my first year to volunteer. My daughter volunteered last year and told me many wonderful stories of dedication to our Gold Star Children and Families.
Pride in serving these families who’s loved one gave all is why I will be volunteering this year!! Thanking these children for their parents service and sacrifice is so important!!
Never Ever Forget!
My late husband passed away in August 2016 and we heard about snowball express shortly after. I am grateful for them. They help show my son he isn’t alone, he gets to be with kids who understand kids who lost a parent and are you okay. He has made life long friendships with people who get him and that is all thanks to Snowball Express.
My children who are now adults attended snowball express for many years. These experiences were not only some of the happiest times in their childhood but also the most healing. Snowball express was the one place my kids were normal and never had to explain their situation.
My father was KIA in Vietnam 5 months before I was born . As I grew up always felt isolation, and a mix of emotions, most people don't understand. Sure wish I could have had this when I NEEDED. Got my first road bike almost two years ago , immediately joined Patriot guard , then Legion Riders . Patriot Gaurd has really helped me a lot . seeing the love among these Gold Star families has helped me find a inner peace . Love serving Patriot Gaurd especially the feel good missions . God bless all involved NEVER FORGOTTEN
Snowball Express has given us so much hope. This will be the third time I have attended, twice with my son Jose that he cant attend his last year because he is in College and this year for the first time for my little princess Adriana. She is by far so excited! She has never been by hearing our stories and me telling her she will meet other children just like her she is by far so ready!!! Thank you Snowball Express for everything you do for us!!!! We love you!!!!!!❤️❤️
Being a part of this organization and seeing the work and dedication of thousands of volunteers coming together, to support and empower children of our fallen military has changed my life. To know such passionate and loving individuals and watch them pour their knowledge, time and expertise into this event each year is astounding. This organization is truly dedicated to our nations fallen military families and holds itself to the highest level of integrity. It's an organization you can trust to put the families and the mission first. I am honored to be a part of it.
Snowball Express is a wonderful organization that brings together the children, spouses and families of our fallen Military Heroes from all over the country for an annual, all-expense paid five day celebration. Last year, I had the honor and privilege of traveling to Dallas, Texas for this special event along with my employer, Green Beans Coffee, and volunteering in the adult lounge. I met so many amazing Moms who have lost their husbands and whose children have lost their fathers. Their strength was truly inspirational and my experience there was unforgettable.
For Mother’s Day, Green Beans Coffee and Snowball Express teamed up to honor these remarkable women by creating special Mother’s Day gift sets made up of coffee, a mug and chocolates. These gift sets were purchased anonymously by people who wanted to express their appreciation for their family’s sacrifice and wish these special Moms a Happy Mother’s Day. Gift sets were sent to Snowball Express Moms in all 50 states.
Here’s a letter from a Snowball Mom who received one of these gift sets:
What a surprise when my daughter went outside on our porch and brought this little brown box into our home. We both looked at it with quizzical looks on our face and double checked the name on the box to make sure it was for us. We eagerly opened the box and in there was such a warm surprise. My daughter took the note out and read it and said “Mom, somebody was thinking about us and they don’t even know us”… Yes, this brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for remembering, thank you for caring, thank you for bringing a warm hug and smile to our family with such a sweet gesture.
Sincerely,
Jennifer and Alyssa Germosen

Snowball Express provides such amazing support to these Moms and their children who have given so much to our nation by bringing them together for healing and bonding and letting them know that they are not forgotten and are not alone. I’m looking forward to attending the event again this year!
Snowball Express since its inception in 2006 has had one mission, "provide hope and memories for the children of military fallen heroes". I can say unequivocally that since that first event in Orange County, CA to SBE VII Dec 2013 in Dallas, Texas, Snowball Express has not strayed from that mission.
I was the former President/Chairman of Snowball Express 2007-2009 so I know first hand the challenges any new non-profit must deal with...but regardless of those challenges, wonderful supporters in CA for three years poured their hearts out to these families and showed them that American had never forgotten. Donors found their contributions of hard cash were matched by donated goods and services worth nearly 10 times that amount!!! Truly amazing and all for the good of these children and surviving spouses.
With tears in their eyes, the CA volunteers passed the event to a group of dedicated volunteers who in traditional Texas style worked their tails off to make Snowball Express even better for the families. Since 2007 American Airlines and its employees have worked tirelessly year round to spread the word and bring more corporate support and awareness to America along with the help of hundreds of other corporations...large and small...to make the last four years in Dallas truly memorable for these families. With the addition of Gary Sinise on the Board of Directors, it is hard to imagine a stronger endorsement from a person with Gary's love of our military and country.
Some say the sign of a great non-profit is how it handles change in leadership and can it remain focus on its mission. The leaders who replaced me along with the current leadership, Buck Kern as Executive Director, and the very active and engaged Board of Director insures that donor's contributions are spent for their intended purpose....making sure these children get the happy memories they deserve when they attend the annual event and do it in a cost effective manner along with offering ever expanded "Snowflake" events around the country year round.
The testimonies from these families on the website just scratch the surface of what Snowball Express represents to these families. If you are considering donating to a military non-profit, you will be hard pressed to find one that does more good for a group that deserves this and much more for the loss of a parent while defending all of our freedoms. It has been a life-changing event to be around these families and the Snowball Express family of volunteers. Please consider getting involved if you are not already.
What can I say besides that this is the most wonderful beyond words heartfelt filled with nothing but love and compassion place. Every year when I see all those SnowBall express volunteers I end up crying cause from the second we land to the second we leave its nothing but understanding and love. Snowball has forever changed my life every year that I go and for that Im trully thankful. No words can describe ALL the people who help and volunteer and just make it wonderful who say they can never repay us for what we have lost, this is the best way and just to know that You guys trully care and show it to us every year it... I cant even put into words. SnowBall Express goes above and beyond everything and for them Im trully thankful and grateful. I never want to leave for it seems that no matter what we will always have a shoulder to cry on when we're there from the friends Ive met to the Volunteers who will let soak there shirts with our tears to letting Us teenagers be as sill and crazy as we want to be in the teen room. There arent enough words for SnowBall But I hope Thank you is a starting point.
There really aren't even words to express what Snowball Express means to my kids and I. We have attended every year and it just gets better. They have friends that are "just like them". Last year on the plane there my daughter said "I know we don't know everyone but it feels like we're one big family." It makes me tear up just writing that. For them to know that their sacrifice doesn't go unnoticed means so much to them. The friendships that these kids are making in the midst of it all are amazing. We are so blessed to be a part of Snowball.
Snowball Express has been an amazing organization for my son and I. We have been attending since the first year (2006). The love, support and "family" that Snowball gives us, means the world to us. Most people can never understand how truly special we feel and how much Snowball helps us. I get tears in my eyes just thinking about how awesome our experiences have been. Looking forward to many more years to come! Thank you Snowball Express!
This organization is amazing! the love shown to the children and family members cannot be compared to anything I've ever been to. I've been attending this event since 2007 with my son. When he decides he no longer wants to attend, I will attend by myself as a volunteer. Thank you Snowball Express!
Last year was our family's first year for Snowball Express and it was definetly a memorable experience that my children and myself will never forget. The volunteers were especially helpful, we had a blast!
2011 Was our first visit with the Snow Ball Express....it was overwelming in a positive way. My children had a wonderful time as well as myself. I was lost for words for the overwelming out pour of supporters and their patriotism and love for our Gold Star families. We plan to attend 2012 as well. Our hero was KIA June 4th 2009. I as a mother am in amazement of the support for our families. Snow Ball Express has shown us we wont be swepped under the rug. Thanks!!!!
I have volunteered with Snowball Express for 6 years and work with the Organization Gold Star Wives of America (Military Widows/Widowers) providing support, friendship, information. I have seen this great organization grow and provide a wonderful event for our Children of Fallen Heroes. They truly care and it shows by the manner of respect they show the children and spouse, guardian, who attends the event and through out the year. Building memories and lifelong friendship and support is what a Gold Star Family truly needs. SBE is one of the many organizations who provides such. I am a Vietnam Widow and working with the recent widows/widowers, Board, volunteers, Patriot Guard and so many is both heartwarming and heart wretching thus a life changer to those who have walk the shoes before 9/11. This is so important for one who did not have the support of knowing another widow for many years this opportunity that SBE provides for the children to meet other children like them and it so benefits the spouse / guardian who also builds support and friendship. As a Military Widow one of the most important things in your life is to know you are not a lone in your grief nor our the children. Thus SBE fills this space for many.
I have volunteered for the Snowball Express event for the last four years. This is a quality organization doing an excellent service for our families who have paid a crushingly high price for our freedoms. These families deserve all we can give them. This camaraderie and celebration among those who can understand and relate to the situations they are in is crucial in that support. Quality folks giving maximum effort for these deserving folks.
It has been my honor and privilege to be a member and proud volunteer since our humble beginnings in 2006 in California. What started out as a fledgling movement to recognize the families of our fallen has blossomed into a life changing experience for these families as well as all of the many volunteers, corporations and donators. I am humbled that what we have accomplished is no less than a miracle for these brave souls who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the loss of their loved one. May God bless us with the resources to continue our mission. We are blessed to have American Airlines as our presenting sponsor. Please visit our website, www.snowballexpress.org and see how you would like to contribute your time, treasure or talent to helping Snowball Express succeed in bringing hope, new memories and new friendships to these families. Please also read of our mini Snowflakes that occur all year through in the towns and cities where our families live. God Bless you and God Bless America as we celebrate yet another July 4th enjoying our freedom. Story, in 2006 I apologized to several of our moms as to the fact that it poured rain for several hours at the Oakley Christmas party causing all to take cover inside. Their comment, "Trisha, that was not rain but tears of joy that Snowball Express was taking care of their loved ones." That is the essence and heart of Snowball Express. Trisha /SBE Advisory Board Member/Snowflake Coordinator, proud volunteer 2006 to present
My daughter and I have been blessed beyond measure through the amazing gift of Snowball Express. There are just simply not words that would adequately describe Snowball Express. SBE has given my daughter the ability to share with other children the heartbreak of losing her daddy. SBE has afforded us the opportunity to stay connected with our Military ties that had been severed when my husband died. I will continue to be forever thankful to the people who have and continue to sacrifice of themselves, their time, their money to give to our children! Thank you just doesn't seem enough!
We are so blessed to have Snowball Express! This wonderful organization brought together families of fallen heroes for a spectacular four day gathering. My children and I have met other families who have also lost a loved in the military. Our ties and relationships will always be strong. We no longer feel alone and are so blessed to have many people who care. We Love You Snowball Express!
Aloha......today is Independence Day, our nation is 236 years old this July 4th. The ring of Freedom sounds true because of the service and sacrifice of our Veterans who have worn the uniform of this great nation. Snowball Express recognizes and acknowledges that service and sacrifice of our fallen by living the credo of Abraham Lincoln, "let us never forget he who hath borne the battle, his widow and his orphan." The past six year's Snowball Express has set aside a few days of Christmas joy for the children of our fallen.........fun memories and new friends made but more importantly to the widows and children, that the service and sacrifice of their loved one will never be forgotten. Unlike a yellow ribbon tied to a tree that soon fades with the sun as well as the memory, Snowball Express continues to reach out every day of the year to support and assit the families of our fallen through nationwide venues. It is a sad commentary that we require organizations such as this to exist when as a nation we should collectively be taking care of our own. God Bless our Volunteers and Supporters whose selfless contribution continues to bring joy, happiness and healing to so many families. We shall never forget and forever honor our "Band of Brothers and Sisters" who have paid the ultimate sacrifice and their families will forever be our own......Snowball Express. Love you and Ooorah and Semper Fi Monsoon
Every year I am amazed of the lengths to which Snowball Express goes to make out of 5 days such an amazing experience for our children and us. And every year there is something new, something even better to make us comfortable, appreciated, recognized, remembered, loved. My daughter looks forward to it every day of the year. Thank you so much to Snowball Express and to all of its sponsors and volunteers. U & G Bowen.
My children look forward to Snowball Express every year, all year! Being surrounded by people who remember and honor their father's sacrifice, and other kids and families who have also experienced loss has made an enormous positive impact in their lives. We are incredibly thankful and fortunate for this organization and all they have done for us.
We volunteered as a family (six family members) for the transportation group. Our experience was fantastic! Meeting the families that have given so much to our nation and then watching them bond with each other and enjoying all the activities provided from the many other gratefull Americans was more than we had ever expected to experience. It was life changing for us and have now put it on our calendar as an annual event that our family will support. Our youngest son was so inspired by the military community that he is now seeking an appointment to the USAFA.
I started out as a volunteer several years ago. Witnessing the experience of these young people was overwhelming. The bonds that they were forming with each other were obvious. Beyond the events and attractions, Snowball Express was providing them with a unique opportunity to meet others in their same situation, with whom the could relate and share. Snowball Express offeres a life-changing experience.
My daughter and I have had the opportunity to participate in the past 4 snowball express events. It is the time of the year that my daughter most looks forward to--seeing and playing with other kids just like her! She has made great bonds both with the kids and volunteers. This organization is so special to us and has included us even though we have been traveling from overseas. We are so grateful to snowball express and the city of Dallas for their compassion for our children and the respect paid to our heroes. My daughter rates this organization as "totally awesome!!"
This will be our 3rd year to volunteer at Snowball Express. We can not express what a true honor it is to be there for the families of our fallen soldiers. We can't help but shed tears with the laughter when we see the children's faces light on arrival at DFW and throughout their 4 day stay in Dallas. This organization is outstanding and we can't wait to be there again this December. Matt and Kathy Vancouver,WA
Having been involved with Snowball for many years, it is a privilege to be associated with the these families who we serve . To be able to give back a little glimmer of hope to those that have sacrificed so much makes me look forward to every contact with them. As a result of my involvement, my life has been enriched by the many new friends I have made.
The best cause in the world. Serving the children of our fallen US military. No greater cause. The best charity in the world. AA has donated 34 charters and pilots and flight attendants have donated their personal time to work the charters since 2007. Absolutely amazing multi-million dollar charity events in 2006, 07 and 08 that were all-volunteer. Just one paid staff member in 2009, 10 and 11.
As a grand daughter of a Fallen Soldier I now volunteer my time to families who have paid the ultimate price for my freedom. I know first hand that the pain of losing a parent, especially as a child, is a void that stays with you always. My time with this families is humbling, heartbreaking and pure joy all rolled into one. If you want a life changing experience, become part of the SBE family.
It has been an honor and priviledge to serve as a volunteer for Snowball Express. This nonprofit is well organized and has wonderful people in leadership roles. The organization truly cares for and loves the families of fallen soldiers. The soldiers and their families are the heroes and are treated with respect and honor. The weekend is filled with activities that the families enjoy and look forward to each year. Seeing the smiles on the children's faces as they arrive is unforgetable. Being a volunteer is just a small way that I can show my thankfulness for the sacrifices that have been made for our country. Lynda Schraub
WOW! My family has been lucky enough to attend three Snowball Express events and a Snowflake event in our home state. For a week every year, we are all reminded that there are people that care about my family's sacrifice...and that we are more important than any reality tv star! My children see their friends, I don't have to explain why the National Anthem makes me cry, and we get celebrated.
My daughter & I was introduced to Snowball Express in the year of 2010. This has been a wonderful and great event due to my daughter losing her father in 2008. She has been able to meet kids from all over the world that can relate to how she feels. She really didn't open up until she meet all this wonderful kids. I thank God because this has been truly a blessing for myself and my daughter. Thank you Snowball Express!!
Snowball Express has given my children and I a reason to look forward to the holiday season every year now. The first holiday season after my husband was KIA was the worse holiday season. Snowball Express has given my children something to look forward to. It helps them knowing that there are others who will also be missing a family member during the holiday season. My children can talk openly about missing their father and build friendships that will help them through the holiday season. I can't imagine not having Snowball Express. They mean so much to my children and I.
As a family who attended for the first time, as overwhelming as it was seing so many people there for the same reasons, we felt at home, at peace and my son had a blast, snowball has been a huge part of our lives during the big event and also during the snowflake events thru out the year. i canot express enough how thankful we are to be able to attend and maintain friendships with other families for life, we are bonded forever by our grief but we continue to grow and live our lives with great memories of our loved ones. thank you!
Words can barely express how much Snowball has made my grand daughters life more rich. She now knows that people care, and will not forget that her mother loved her, and most of all she is not alone. The people from Snowball are the Hero's behind the Hero's, the ones meeting and caring and most of all giving. Giving time, giving love, presents and presence where there is sometimes left a hole the size of TX, the great news is they fill it to overflowing. I could not imagine being able to do that on my own, without my daughter.
Some members from our department(Haltom City Fire Department) participated last year with EMS for the event. It was so impacting as we bumped up against families whose lives were so forever changed that we determined next year we would be involved again even if it meant traveling out of town. An opportunity to give a very small token of appreciation to these families for what has been sacrificed on their part.
It was overwheming. We never knew about this event until last year(2011).We missed four whole years and that's a big shame. My son passed in 2007 and Iam raising his daughter. Iam so amazed and thankful for the welcome ,appreciation and care we received in Dallas last december. We were VIP's and sure felt special. My grandaughter was shocked. She is looking foward to participate again in the 2012 Snowball Express event. She is very excited. We thank Sowball express staff very much for remembering us (families of the fallen heroes). We'll see you soon.
This is an amazing service to especially the children of the fallen. I was involved as a professional helping with air transportation for their 2010 event..as well as volunteering during the actual event.I witnessed the appreciation and love poured onto all involved. More organizations like this should be supported.
My family has volunteered with this charity for the past couple of years and it always warms my heart. These surviving children of our fallen soldiers deserve to know that we will never forget. The children have so much fun and look forward to returning year after year. The best part is watching the kids form relationships that are rekindled every year. We'll volunteer and donate every year!
it galls me that the goverrnment will pay millions to the survivors of the twin towers victims that were not willig to sacrifice their lives for our country yet the government pays so much less to the survivors of fallen sodiers and their families even though they were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for their country! Snowball Express helps to close that gap!
I have been involved with Snowball Express through my employer who also supports Snowball Express. Each year I become more and more involved and see the work that is done for children by this wonderful organization. The smiling faces of the children who have sacrificed so much just touches the heart. Kudos to Snowball Express for giving these children some much needed support and some fun and down time with others that are like them.
I am a member of the Patriot Guard Riders, an organization that provides escort service for the Snowball Express when it brings the families to the Dallas area. It is such a gratifying experience to see the faces on the young children as they arrive among all the excitement of the airport, welcoming hugs from all the volunteer's, and expectation of the events planned. The children have had so much trauma in their lives and Snowball Express is determined to give them some happy time, albeit too short. Providing the families lively, fun filled events in a caring and loving setting is what Snowball Express is all about and I am proud to sit on a motorcycle in 20 degree weather to escort a bus load of military dependents to a rodeo. I hope the program never ceases for lack of funding.
Last year I became involved with Snowball Express through a local Lions Club. It was a profoundly moving experience. At first I was afraid it would be "upsetting" to be facing people who had been through one of life's most deeply felt tragedies. Not so! There was a quiet dignity about these children and surviving parents or guardians that was thrilling to see. As they moved through the registration line, you could feel the atmosphere become one of anticipation and hope as they were to experience a few days of purposeful entertainment to help soothe their souls. If ever there was a wonderful charity -- this is it. But, maybe it isn't a charity after all -- simply a place in time where people from all areas of life and all ages come together to to show love and concern for their neighbor. Isn't this what we are all really called to do?
Last year , was our first year and I am truly impressed by the self- less service of the volunteers , undeniable love and respect that we felt by everyone from staff to families. Snowball express allowed our family the opportunity to grieve, laugh, relax and share the memories of our fallen soldier with each other and others. The girls shared memories of their Dad, I never knew they had. We had fun and grew closer with each other. God bless this organization, there is a need for it, my girls were not humbled in knowing , they are not alone. Our loved ones served so we didn't have to and this organization truly honors the children and loved ones of our fallen soldiers.
5 years ago a coworker told my husband about Snowball Express and we have been hooked ever since! We are honored to get to spend 5 days each year with military families who have given so much for our country! To be able to be a part of something that brings families together to share their stories, make new friends, see old friends and create new memories is an incredible gift unlike any other. I particularly enjoy meeting the families and volunteers from all around the country!
My daughter and I have been attending Snowball Express since the beginning. I cannot say enough about this wonderful and amazing organization. The people who make this all possible have hearts of gold. Ever experience we have had with Snowball Express leaves us with the biggest smiles. Seeing all of the kids smiling and laughing again brings warmth to my heart. Snowball Express will never let our children be forgotten. The activities and events are fun filled for the youngest child to the oldest adult. Each year it is a family reunion. We love everyone involved and will never be able to say thank you enough.
My husband and I were a part of SBE in 2009 and 2010 with TAPS as mentors. It is one of the most gratifying weeks with the bravest little heroes, the children of our fallen. The events are fun-filled activities for the kids and allows for the widows to have some off time away from the kids. SBE is a wonderful non-profit!
I am involved in several non-profit activities supporting a range of needs and services. There is not one that serves a greater prupose than Snowball Express!! Bringing the spouses and children of our fallen wrriors together for a few days or fun and relaxation becomes a few days of healing and bonding. Finding out that they are not alone, not forgotten, and that others share the sacrifices they have made. Volunteers get as much, if not more, out of being part of this than the Snowball families. It is great to see the smiling faces and hear the laughter, but then it hits you what the price of admission was. These families have sacrificed more than most Americans. They serve and sacrifice for the country, and they must NEVER be forgotten.
We lost my husband in Afghanistan in late 2010 and so SBE 2011 was our first. It was also out first experience meeting others who have suffered the same loss. It was absolutely life changing for my children. The joy and happiness they experienced was evident from the smiles on their faces; smiles like I hadn't seen in a very long time. It brings tears to my eyes to remember. The fun started the moment we stepped out of our car at the airport. We were greeted by clowns and Soldiers and PGR Riders anxious to welcome us and assist us with our luggage. The fun continued at the departure gate where there was music and singing and dancing; food, activites, and even Santa. The kids still talk about the chartered flight and the crazy fun they had on board. But that was just the beginning. The people of Texas welcomed us in style. I was actually overwhelmed and overcome with emotion to know that so many who don't personally know us, still love us and appreciate and honor the sacrifice and suffering the SBE families have endured. The weekend was filled with scheduled activities and I found myself in awe at just how well orchestrated the entire event was. I have asked my kids what their favorite part of SBE was and the two answers they gave are: "shopping for mom's christmas present" and "spending time with mom". Thank you Snowball Express for the precious memories and for showing my children that there are kids just like them and people who care about them. We anxiously await SBE 2012!
Hi My Name is Jeanne Moyer but the families all know me as SCRIBBLES the clown ! I paint their beautiful faces at the hotel. These children get to celebrate with children just like them, who have lost their father or mother serving this great nation of ours! They come to Dallas with the face of their parent on their t-shirts and they are very proud to tell me all about them, while sitting in my chair. Every day the families are taken by buses to fun places all over Dallas and treated like "Stars" and every thing is free. When they come back to the hotel they have them broken up in age groups ,so everyone has someone their age to hang out with ! Lots of free food every where you look and music and just a great feeling all around you ! The kids have to check in and out and all wear wrist bands so they have a great security system , to make all the parents feel at ease and can enjoy their time as well..they even have a lounge for the parents..at the end of their Snowball Express Holiday they are sent away with lots of presents and gifts that were all provided by Snowball along with lots of new friends and wonderful memories. Can't wait for this year !
The Children of our fallen Military Heroes are the future of our United States of American and the Snowball Express Organization has taken a vow to insure they know Americans care and will continue to support these children and their families. The impact Snowball Express has is to help them to bond with each other and to heal while knowing they can still have fun. Outstanding organization!!! The mission statement says it all : "These children need to realize people still remember the service and sacrifice of their fallen hero. I felt so proud to give a little of my time to those families who have made one of the greatest sacrifices a family has to make for the freedom we get to experience and enjoy. Snowball Express has given me the opportunity to give a little back to those families. The organization is very organized and structured and I believe will have a life-long impact on the survivors of the fallen heroes as well as those who volunteer their time and resources.
The company I work for has many opportunities to work with non profit organization and we have been involved with many. This was by far the best organization I have worked with in 12 years. I will definitely be back to volunteer next year.
Outstanding organization!!! The mission statement says it all : "These children need to realize people still remember the service and sacrifice of their fallen hero. " As a Gold Star Child myself, I wish Snowball Express would have been there 40 years ago for me after my Air Force Pilot Hero Father was shot down in Laos servicing our country with valor.
I am a new volunteer but know some of the families that this organization has assisted in the past and wanted to join. I wish we had just such an organization during Korea or Vietnam. It goes a long way to making people appreciate what their servicemen and women leave behind. The dedication of this group toward these children is inspiring to say the least. And they get hundreds of businesses to join in on their efforts. I am proud to be a new volunteer.

As the Assistant State Captain for the Patriot Guard Riders of Texas I along with most of our riders have had the honor of working hand in hand with SnowBall Express. The work this group does with the children who have lost a parent in the war is a God sent. Talking with the children and seeing first hand the changes in the children when they experience SnowBall Express can only be described as life changing. This group has touched the heart of each and every Patriot Guard Rider who participates.

Snowball express is absolutely amazing. My son and I, who last his father last year in April, went to Texas last December. The staff and volunteers were amazing from the plane there, to our plane home. I have never been touched. From the very first day my son thanked me profusely for letting him come. It's not every day you get to spend time with people just like you. You don't have to know their stories, and you don't have to know theirs, but you know what you have in common and it's so comforting to not have to say a thing sometimes. Its a hard feeling to explain, but the experiences of our first snowball express are something my son and I will hold with us for years to come.
I worked all week last year and I came away knowing that the children had been helped by this wonderful organization. I hope to help as much as possible this year also.
The children and surviving spouses of our fallen heroes sometimes have the 1st honest contact with others who "know what it's like" at the Snowball Express. To see a young person arrive withdrawn and angry change into a mass of sobbing jell, surrounded by people who really care - then molded into having new friends and being a support for others - is something you MUST experience. It will change your outlook as much or more than it changed that young person's view. Support Snowball Express in any way you can.
My first year with the Snowball Express was through the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders where I worked as a PGR to provide motorcycle escort the buses from the airport to the hotel, to the events and activities, and back. I was able to meet and visit with many of the families and felt an overwhelming and emotional connection to them. Then at my second year, I volunteered with SBE as an Airport Greeter and then in Transportation where I met and became friends with many of the families throughout the program. From many of the discussion that I overheard and participated in, I can tell you that the Snowball Express program has been a positive influence and helped these families in so many ways. From emotional support, to shared activities and experiences, to just getting them out of their normal day to day routines and having fun with other families, all providing emotional and motivating support. I will definitely continue to be involved with Snowball Express as a PGR and as a volunteer. It was my honor and priveledge to help.
I volunteered at Snowball Express last year. It was truly amazing to see everyone come together and do what they did for Military families. The kids looked so happy and the moms/dads looked like they were enjoying themselves also. It was so amazing the businesses/people that donated stuff... I have never seen so much stuff given away to people who truly deserved it. I will volunteer for Snowball Express every year that I can.
Snowball Express lovingly extends open arms to the surviving spouses and children of our recently fallen military heros. At probably the worst time in their lives, these families are brought from all over the world to experience our collective gratitude through a series of events and parties celebrating the greatness of their sacrifice. From free flights, hotels, meals and transportation Snowball Express affords these families a chance to get away, to be celebrated and be a part of the kinship of a uniquely large group of other families that are in the exact same situation. In a nutshell, they help create memories and friendships that are sorely needed..and they last a lifetime. Best Non-profit! Cary L. Cobb - Plano, TX
Snowball express is absolutely wonderful, my kids love getting to have fun and meet lots of other kids who have lost a parent while serving in the military. They provide a wonderful environment for healing and growing stronger with others.
Was able to help during the annual trip to Dallas/Fort Worth. Helped set up the hotel before all the families got there. It was amazing to watch everyone work together to make this as great an experience as could be for these families. I will be back again next year to help again for sure. Awesome job everyone.
