Mission: Slavic village development (svd) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to work with and for its residents, businesses, and institutions to promote civic engagement, community empowerment, and neighborhood investment. This is accomplished through three goals: 1. Svd is an engaged, inclusive, and proactive champion empowering its residents and businesses. 2. Svd partners with residents and businesses to improve the slavic village neighborhood through advocacy and promotion. 3. Svd builds slavic village as a welcoming place where families and businesses can thrive.
Programs: Svd works to create jobs and economic opportunities. Over the course of the past year: -five new businesses were created in the neighborhood -svd successfully attracted business investment to bring in another six businesses to open within the next year -the "village market" neighborhood farmers- and makers' summer market doubled the number of visitors from the previous year
the development of housing is a core function of svd. Over the past year: -fifteen new "slavic village green homes", single family new homes, were developed for low-income first-time homeowners -nineteen formerly vacant and abandoned homes were rehabilitated through the neighbors invest in broadway and the slavic village recovery programs -thirty residents received housing rehabilitation assistance to help them stay in their homes -median sales prices for single-family homes increased by 33%, the largest increase in a decade -vacant structures decreased by 12. 5%, the largest decrease in a decade
svd is a lead partner for the third federal foundation-funded slavic village p-16. Over the past year, through the work of svd and its partners, the following educational accomplishments were met: -all five cleveland metropolitan school district k-8 schools made improvements on the kindergarten to third grade reading report card. -the number of quality pre-school seats were increased to 360 from a low of 30 in 2014 -slavic village was named the world's first "little free library neighborhood" -28 high-schoolers were provided with summer employment through the slavic village green team program, which was replicated in eleven other cleveland neighborhoods -over 1,500 volunteer hours were devoted to neighborhood cleanup activities
the organization's large loss for 2017 was directly related to its acknowledging the uncollectiblity of varius project receivables.
