Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal-Related, Animals, Wildlife Preservation & Protection, Wildlife Sanctuaries

Mission: Skye's Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center was founded in 1999 as a safe haven for injured, orphaned and displaced wildlife. We admit the wildlife to our facility, provide veterinary care if needed, feed and nurture them, rehabilitate injuries, and release them back into the wild if possible. Our center cares for over 800 animals and birds each year and is a volunteer group. Additionally, we provide educational programs and displays to schools, parks, scout groups, and other public organizations and facilities. These programs and displays help teach conservation of our natural resources and how everyone can help preserve wildlife.

Great place & people. They returned my call & were concerned about the owl I found in my yard. I had spoken to multiple centers & Skye's Spirit by far made me feel the best & most comfortable & confident that the owl would get the absolute best care.

Skyes spirit is an awesome Wildlife center! I have called them 4 times through the years..First time 2 babie birds fell out of nest during storm, a sparrow fracture it spinal while it got stuck in the bird feeder, I hit a red tail hawk, and than there was a baby cooper hawk that was stuck up in a tree of mine at the V...Robert was so very nice to come out to my place and rescue the little thing, while his parents were flying above.. If we didn't have this center in the area, so many animals would not get the help the need...We need more centers around to help the wild life n more dedicated people like MaryJane n Robert! I know these guys work around the clock w/ no sleep most of the time to take care of these animals that need help along w/ there own daily life events..I envy them both for all the hard work n dedication that they have to help these poor animals!

This rehab center is great. They take a lot of wildlife in and try to help what they can. I have messaged them about some things that I needed help with and got an answer in a couple of minutes. They are really a great place for helping the animals. They show kindness and knowledge about their wildlife that is in the care of this facility.

Sky Spirits Wildlife Center is very knowledgeable about wildlife. They have helped me out with quite a few things when I have emailed them They are compassionate about their work and try to help all that come in from being chewed up by a cat or fell out of a nest. I love their webpage and posts on Facebook about the animals that come in. I like that they are very frank about a post and tell it like it is. Other places just post and say they will let you know how an animal is doing, never hear from them again. Sky lets us know how the injured animal is doing. Some of us really care how an animal is doing that is in their care. Just love this place.

I found an injured gull and I called Tamarack first because theywere near where I was. They would not take the injured bird nor help me. They said I'd probably have to let it go. I said no it will die. I then found Skyes Spirit by a web search. They called me back and didn't even hesitate telling me to bring the bird in. When I dropped him off I was amazed by how much they really care for these animals and take care of them. Such amazing people and I can only imagine the time and care it takes to nurse these animals back to health. Absolutely amazing team. Keep up the great care :)

I've been following Skyes Spirit Wildlife Rehab for a couple of years now. They have impressed me with their treatment of even the smallest of animals. Mice, baby birds, turtles, they treat them with the same loving care as they do larger, more impressive animals. I've visited their facility and was warmly welcomed. Their educational outreach is also commendable.

Skye's Spirit opened my eyes to the world of animals who have no one to care for them. To ease the suffering and heal where possible. I had the opportunity to see a Great Horned Owl released to the wild, healed after an encounter with a truck. To live free again. Who could ask for more. She qualifies for Sainthood !

I had found a red tailed hawk that was on the road walking, I noticed he had a head injury so with a little help from a girl that stopped we got the phone number to Skye's Spirit Rehab center for animals, after talking to MaryJane she told me how to carefully cover the bird and place him in a box in order to bring him in. When I got there MaryJane was waiting for me, picked him right up examined him, told me he was dehydrated and had not eaten in a few days but he was saveable! I thanked her, gave her all the money I had to care for the hawk. I was told she would post my pick of the hawk and let me know his progress. She had him standing and fighting within just a few hours. So very thankful that they are there, so many times I have found injured animals and had no idea where to take them. I highly recommend if you find a injured animal call them and take the animal to them. They nurture the animals until they are well and release them back into the wild. Animals Angels is what they are !! Cuddos to the best animal care givers around !!

i have taken one animal there , and they made arraignments to have the other pick up i was unable to take to them, Any problems Maryjane gets back to you in less that 10 to 15 min, every time i have had an animal that needed help, . the wildlife they get in she explains why it is there and how it got hurt, and where it came from/and tells the truth, hit by car, falling out of the nest, or by a cat, , she is easy to talk to, and if she dont have an answer she finds it, birds brought in she tells you things about them that make each one different from the other /song birds brought in she tells you about each one, when she is low on donations she post it, and it gets shared, and tells you for what she needs it for, nothing is kept from you , . she trys to keep you updated on the wildlife, and always how many fawns, she is great at what she dose, and always will love what gift that was given to her, to protect the wildlife, with out her would be a great loss ,she is one of a kind , caring and giving all she can, yr around , i just wish some how some kind of funding , cause, she works hard to make ever thing right, and i would really hate to loose her wildlife rehab because of lack of funds, its so hard, to make things easy with out any kind of funding, its hard enough working 24/ 7, and worry if there will be donations for the next wildlife animal that comes in, / i wish her the best of luck and many more yrs of doing a great job she dose, and all of the above is the truth . not just said, its from the heart and knowing her for the time i have, im impressed, as many are, good luck, and always praying for funding to save more wildlife, and make life a little less stressful ,and so many different wildlife animals need help/ and people to help are very hard to find, like i said she would be a great loss to the wildlife, good luck Maryjane , wishing all the best and times to get eraser for her in hopes of funding one day , ty for your time, Alma Carlo (doglady)

Skyes Spirit is a great organization that has the philosophy that no creature is insignificant or unworthy of giving another chance at life. They seem to be available 24/7 and I'm sure that the constant worry about having enough money to operate is hard for them. I find it so gratifying to see them release an animal or bird that didn't have a prayer otherwise....an animal that was so fortunate to have someone take them to Skyes Spirit where they were given love - medication and proper treatment - and another chance! I've learned so much about how to treat an injured animal by reading the Facebook accounts from MaryJane -and I love the pictures and videos about how well the different ones are doing.

I have watched this rehabilitation center for years and am always greatly impressed with the outstanding care that these folks give to all creatures - trying to give them all a second chance. They interact well with the public and are very educational. Their heart is genuinely in giving each little critter the best chance ever to survive after falling prey to some misfortune. They deserve to have more money to enable them to continue in their mission.

I have taken several animals to Skyes Spirit and have taken several friends and family members to events and to visit the wildlife that is available to see outside. The extent of Maryjane's and Robert's knowledge is vast and their love for the animals they care for is boundless. They care for all from turtles and snakes to bald eagles and fawns. They raise babies to be successfully released back into the wild and mend the seriously wounded with dedication and respect. I believe they know of the trust that has been given them by the Universe to touch the lives of so many animals. I also know that they believe that the more they teach humans about their wild neighbors and their environment the better off all will be. They are inspirational in their dedication and endless energy to keep on helping and teaching and I believe that the wildlife they help know in their hearts that they are being well care for while in the care of Skyes Spirit. There is nothing Maryjane's family wouldn't give to save so many and Skyes Spirit deserves the best the public has to give. The more help Skyes Spirit gets, the more they can give to our beloved wildlife.

This nonprofit organization serves the Harrisville PA area and beyond in western PA. Professionals and general public alike use this animal care service to give the injured a second chance of survival. The motto "To care for as many animals that need our help to enable them to be released back into their natural habitat for a second chance at freedom." Doesn't cover the time money and tireless 24/7 effort that's behind the care the animals receive. From an injured vole to the majestic bald eagle, they are all treated with the utmost concern for recovery. Can not say enough or ask the public enough to support this much needed service. Salute Skyes you are well loved for your continued service. The expense to rehabilitate wildlife is very large.

I moved to Pa. from Mass. in 2000. A long way from original home I found new and wonderful friends when I started to volunteer at Skyes Spirit Rehab. The Angelos who own and run the rehab, without any help from any one started and built the rehab center. Saving any wildlife that needed help and was legal to handle. What a wonderful place it has turned out to be, a large eagle flight cage, a bob cat for people to visit, a turtle yard. a gift shop and a rehab building. we still need help but no place could be better for the wildlife and people who care.

Maryjane Angelo is the most dedicated wildlife rehabber in the world. She works tirelessly helping these poor animals that get hit by cars or mauled by cats. She tenderly nurses them back to health or helps them pass on if they are too injured to survive. She is a true friend to every animal. It is a shame that there is no state or federal funding for animal rehabs. She takes cares of all these animals for no pay, and must constantly worry about fundraising. This should not be. She is grateful for any donation, both monetary or supplies. She is an inspiration to all the animal and nature lovers out there. What would the animals do without MaryJane and Skyes Spirit? I hope we never have to find out!

My husband found a bird egg on our sidewalk and noticed that it was moving. There were no trees around where he found it, so we carefully scooped the egg up in a paper towel and put it on our porch to see what would happen. Sure enough in a few hours time the chick hatched and was out of the egg chirping away. It was a Sunday afternoon and not knowing what to do I began searching the internet for advice or somewhere to take the bird for care. I began calling veterinary offices and animal sanctuaries, but most places were closed on a Sunday afternoon and the open ones turned me away. The little bird made it through the night and at this point was probably starving. We did find some worms in the back yard to feed it (now we know this is WRONG instead wet cat food should be given.) There were a few places I tried calling only to be turned away, when finally I got to Skye’s Sprit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Mary Jane said to bring the bird to the center and she would get it strong enough to release back into the wild. I was never so relieved. Being an animal lover it was heart-breaking to know this little animal need food and care and I could do nothing to help it. Thank you Skye’s Sprit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center for all that you do, your center is a wonderful place!

What they do for these animals is amazing and they are a blessing to this community, not only for the wildlife that they care for but for the people out there that love animals and don't know where to turn to if they find one of these animals in distress. When they care for an animal that is brought to them, they do their best to bring them back to be healthy enough to get them back in their own natural habitat. My only wish is I had more money and time to help the wildlife. The injured animals will always continue and without needed funds it breaks my heart they would not find care. It is such a joy to witness any type of wildlife in their own habitat which of course is always in danger. I am so grateful to know Skyes Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitation is available to care for them. I am the type of person to panic when I don't know how to give an animal proper care. Caring for the bluebirds here which was a neighborhood effort because of their nests being destroyed by the House Sparrow here, I was devastated when one of the babies had a broken wing. Grabbed him up and rushed him to Skyes Wildlife Rehab which is an hour drive from my house. I was so overjoyed that the bird was going to be taken care of. Had to tell everyone I meet about the Rehab and their great work! Thank goodness for volunteers.

I first met MJ when I had 2 orphaned squirrels that had been found by a customer of a pet store I was working at. It was recommended to take them to her. As soon as I met her, I knew the little babies I fell in love with in just a few days would be well taken care of. After that I became a transport for Skye's spirit rehab. And I had lots of items donated to them, and when my family relocated to Florida, I took her all of my critter supplies and plants for the rehabbing animals that she has. I would trust MJ and her family and volunteers with any wildlife problems, questions, or care. She is a very wonderful person!! I am grateful to have met her!!!

I have known about Skye's Spirit Wildlife Rehab Center for 7 years. They are dedicated to helping wildlife get a second chance. Maryjane strives to help every single creature that is brought to the center 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I have attended many fundraisers at the center and have seen the dedication that she and her family have for caring for wildlife who need help. Maryjane never gives up even in the worst of times, whether it is a time of financial hardship or severe weather she keeps giving care to the critters in need! It is such a wonderful feeling to be at the center with all the people who care about wildlife and to watch Maryjane release a healthy, rehabilitated hawk or an owl back into the sky to fly back into the wild for another chance at its life! I will continue to contribute any help that I can to Skye's Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. They deserve all the help and blessings they can get.

I first heard of Skye;s Spirit Wildlife Rehab on a Yahoo Group. Being an animal lover myself, I was immediately interested & contacted the administrator by email regarding recycling printer inkjet cartridges to raise money to benefit the care of the wildlife. Since then I've visited the Center on several occasions & have now been a monthly donor for several years. After visiting the center & getting to know the administrators a little better, It just struck me how dedicated they are & how hard they work to help the orphaned & injured wildlife that constantly comes in to the center for their help. They don't brag, they don't complain, they just do what needs to be done. And they do it with the utmost love for all the creatures. When I found an injured bird, I gave Maryjane a call & left a message. She called me back very quickly. After telling her the problem, her answer was "bring it right up" Alas, the little wren died before I could even transport it. It's wonderful to know, when one of God's creatures is in physical trouble, there is a place, a haven, to take them to where they will receive the greatest care. and when healed, will be released back to nature for a second chance. I thank you Maryjane & Robert for all you do! God Bless You!

I live in Punxsutawney, and although Skye's Spirit is 1 1/2 hours away, it is the only wildlife rehab center in the area I have found who is always available and willing to help any animal, no matter what kind. I have taken two birds there before. The first was a baby starling that had been blown out of its nest. Trying to find a rehab center willing to take in songbirds seemed impossible until I called Skye's Spirit. I was so relieved and grateful. They really believe that every life deserves a chance. It is obvious how much they love the animals and what a great job they do. I have also taken in a great horned owl I found that was hit by a car. Skye's Spirit returned my call within a matter of minutes and gave me advice on the safest way to bring the owl in. They devote all of their time to the welfare of animals. They are truly a great place.

My husband and I were out on the motorcycle in Erie, PA. We saw a robin get hit by a car and it was still alive and alert with a broken wing. We called Skye's Spirit Wildlife and talked to MaryJane and she sent someone to pick up the bird. This wildlife center goes above and beyond to help you get help for injured animals. They give every animal a chance.

I recently had a nest of bunnies injured by my dog. there is no way that I could have cared for them, and I was so glad I had a place to take them that would keep them safe and nurse them to health. I wish I had more funds to donate - so I hope that someone will be able to. I think lots of animals would suffer if there was not a place to take them for care!

Skye's Spirit Wildlife Rehab & Education Center takes in wildlife from not only the Venango County, PA area but also as far north as Erie County. She has rehabbed & released countless birds & mammals that would have perished without her care, devotion & expertise.
Recently, an injured hummingbird arrived & when the carrier box was opened, all thought it was DOA, but Maryjane saw a glimmer of life & rushed into action. The hummer is still alive. This is only one small example of her commitment & determination to rehab wildlife that often are injured due to careless humans and cats that are allowed to roam free & predate on helpless animals.
