Mission: The skaneateles foundation was founded in 2008 dedicating itself to the skaneateles community. The foundation seeks to enhance the community through promotion of the performing arts and music, preservation of the cultural heritage of boating on skaneateles lake, the area's economic development, conservation of skaneateles lake and its surrounding facilities, and financial assistance of those deserving individuals without regard to race, nationality, sex, color or creed.
Programs: Skaneateles antique and classic boat show celebrates the heritage of wooden boating in skaneateles. More than 80 exhibitors and 10,000 visitors come to skaneateles the last weekend in july each year to view the beautiful boats, and some exhibitors get judged on their own boats. Live music, activities for children and boating displays are all a part of this festive weekend.
dickens christmas is a gift from the business community to the general public for the weekends between thanksgiving and christmas each year for the past 20 years. The streets of skaneateles are transformed into a victorian christmas village filled with caroling and actors acting out parts of charles dickens "a christmas carol", horse and carriage rides and entertainment. Approximately 5,000 people attend this event each weekend.
community docks were originally built for the use of the antique and classic boat show. However, now their main use is by the community and people that visit our lake by boat. They are open from 6am to 10pm and are staffed daily from july 1 through september 1 by dock staff to assist visitors in tying up their boats and to give general information. The docks are in the water from early june until october.
